Well I was thinking a little bit bigger - Maybe the Wirtz's will sell the team to the Hunters. ( I also thought if Old Man Wirtz was going to sell the team on his watch the Sutter's would have been the buyers. He respected that family).

The Wirtz's have owned the Hawks since 1954, I doubt they are looking at selling to the Hunters or anyone else. They bought the club for $ 1 mil. It would be cheaper to lose "real" (not accounting) money for a few years than pay the capital gains tax if they sold the franchise for $800 millipn or so.

Or he could have just been making a play on words form Toews own mouth.

"I don't even know what is expected of me as a captain".

From Jonathan Toews' perspective, he was excited "to know that this team will have some direction in the next little bit here" but still wasn't quite sure to what level Chicago's rebuild would be.

"I don't know if I really understand what that means yet," Toews said on March 3.

Genuine concerns from the Captain about the mess this team is (hopefully soon to be “was”) in.

No way they sell this cash cow, i doubt a buyer would want only the team, my bet is they would want every sister company associated with the team.

True, but it doesn't change the fact he said it. So what is the problem repeating it?

And how long before they allow gambling inside the UC, that's just around the corner.

Isn't in reality happening already with places bets on the game while there from a cell phone. Draft kings and fan duel.

His health is a concern, yes, but only worrying about himself is not what a captain does. That’s why he’s the captain.

Hmmm. Perhaps then you’ve been “facetious” with several of your comments about 19.

No, not every comment in this current blog or past ones. I've been flippant here and there about a few others, too, in case you were wondering. However, I tend to be serious about 95% of the time.

And a good captain he is. You're right about Toews taking care of those around him. He's lauded by current and former teammates for genuinely and constantly caring about them on and off the ice.

Theo with torts in Philly and the success Jones had under him I wonder if torts would want him back?
Just an hypothetical Seth Jones to Philly for Ryan Ellis and jvr. Doubt torts would like jvr's game and flip him at the tdl. Most likely not happening but just an idea.

How would that remotely improve the Hawks let alone the rebuild?

I don't know just spitballing an idea. Are they really going yo do a rebuild fully or on the fly. I m sure imo Wirtz will have some say how far this rebuild goes. Just a thought. After I sent the post LA I realized what you said how does help the hawks. MAybe torts wants Jones back maybe not.

But your taking on 2 bad contracts for one. Ellis is 31 with 4 more years at $6.25. JVRbis not going to bring back a first at the TDL. And you are getting zero young assets.

What a good game tonight, man Hagel is just a good hockey player, need me to take faceoffs, sure, i do feel for him if they can't win 3 in a row. Avs team just keeps coming at you.

I agree wholeheartedly about Hagel and was considering putting in a board on here so cheers on that.

Also, related- why are we always in such a hurry to get rid of anyone and everyone ???

Projecting a Jones trade is difficult not because of the low likelihood it happens but because another team would struggle to offer anything up that may be worth it for the Hawks.

This also assumes, of course, that another team wants to bring Jones aboard.

For sh!ts and giggles on CapFriendly, I've been fiddling around with different trade scenarios involving Jones. If the Flyers have interest, here's something I spitballed a week or so ago which actually builds off of what you suggested.

Flyers receive:
* Seth Jones

Blackhawks receive:
* Ryan Ellis
* James van Riemsdyk
* Emil Andrae
* 2022 1st

Chicago gets a high draft pick and a top prospect plus a pair of hefty contracts. The head scratcher is Ellis given he still has 5 years left at $6.25M AAV.

For one thing, Ellis hasn't played a full season since 2018-19 (then 49, 35, and 4 over the last 3) so staying healthy is a concern which means could the Hawks gain someone they can put on LTIR at some point (or multiple points).

Is this advantageous for the Hawks in any way?

Another thing, even if he stays healthy, what's better: Jones at 8 x $9.5M or Ellis at 5 x $6.25M? Both are RHD with great puck skills and offensive talent yet I would argue Ellis is the better defender.

Regardless, a trade like this is probably unrealistic for many reasons. Doubt the Flyers would go for this but you never know.

So the NHL puts the blame squarely on the stripes for allowing the illegal line change on the winning OT goal, which is true because the play is not reviewable. Unfortunately the line change wasn't even close, the stripes (all 4 of them) blew it.
