you see Mollie's latest article suggesting they may buyout Reaves? - jimbro83
I thought his contract would be no savings due to his age?
NVM, decided to check while I was typing this up. It actually saves them 1.16 mil on the cap this year but the following year it would cost around 500k. Interesting breakdown. |

yeah, exactly what she wrote today
I mean, I really like Reaves, and maybe he is tradeable, but desperate times cap wise

maybe what should have gotten Gorton (Davidson) fired was his cap management skills. Even after a rebuild!! (Drury gets an honorable mention with the Nemeth contract) WTF? I feel violated! |

to be fair though
the Rangers 2022-23 cap situation is what it is because of the Fox and Zibanejad extensions more than anything else
they went from making a combined 6.5 million in 2021-22 to next year a combined 18 million
and they are worth every penny |

All of our buy-outs have come home to roost. |

Has a contract ever been bought out before the player plays one game on it? Lol |

But troubas contract is an albatross. They will have to make some creative moves

I don't understand how people still think this. Not directly attacking you because I know this feeling is shared by a decent amount of people.
It is a little high but it's not like he's some plug. They had no way of knowing that the cap would be flat for YEARS after signing him. We can't hindsight that one. |

He’s definitely not a plug, but you can get his exact production for $5.5-$6. They have 4 contracts of $8m or more. The roster has to be filled with some lower cap hit contracts in order to compete. Look at the avs cap situation |

Call it what it is- Paranin at $11.5M has to play like THAT player and not what showed up.

I totally get that and it is definitely frustrating.
The fact is that if the cap had gone up properly and there was no shut down this would not even be a topic of discussion. If they didn't also have nearly 3.5mil in buyout money on the books this summer would not even be that tight. But this is where we are and it might suck for a bit. Hopefully they can get rid of Nemeth's full hit and figure out some other creative solutions.
When they signed Trouba they also had no idea what they had in Fox. |

he absolutely played like that kind of player in the regular season though
and we will need that again to make the playoffs next year

Panarin was very good in the regular season and lived up to his contract. However 5v5 his play slipped in the regular season and was very underwhelming in the post season. They need better players on his line that fit his skill set. Tough to do up against the cap |

I love Paranin but I am talking about THIS playoffs. His game needs to get better not worse in the playoffs (because of his cap hit). He has to score like two players or at least 1 1/2. He needs to be full time with Zbad and Kid line has to show they are for real or we are (frank)ed next year.
Drury has some tough decision to make on getting space beyond not signing our own UFA/RFA.

That's dumb too, but this was in the first round and a clean hit. |

It was a legal hit- Im not so sure about clean. Crosby deserved it tho and I am grateful that we have a player that can do that for us instead of it getting done to us.

back to Panarin though
I can't be worried about him performing in next year's playoffs until we get there
and we need him and his 96+ points next season to get there

And every single time I tell them to go watch it again and blame Emelin for putting his stick in Kreider's skates. (frank)ing unbelievable to me that people watch that and come away thinking a guy who is so respectful of everyone he interacts with tried to end the career of an opponent. |

I was just providing an explanation on why our cap window closed so quickly and with a young rebuilding team.
we are very dependent on Panarin for BOTH the regular season AND the playoffs. As he goes we go. |
