He’s definitely not a plug, but you can get his exact production for $5.5-$6. They have 4 contracts of $8m or more. The roster has to be filled with some lower cap hit contracts in order to compete. Look at the avs cap situation - nyrangers2
From who? What UFA, this year next year or the year after that, can they sign that can bring what Trouba brings for $5.5-6m? |

I don't think they would sign someone, like that
I think if Trouba wasn't here, we'd talk about Fox, Schneider and then maybe Lundkvist getting another shot on the right side
but, I'm a Trouba guy, I'm not advocating getting rid of him, I'm just saying I think that's the direction the conversation would go if he wasnt here |

I’m talking at the time of the signing and now he was never worth $8m
If you look at defenseman making $6m per they have around the same point production as trouba. He’s just not worth $8m. He put up 39 points, plays pp2 and is a second pair defenseman. What other second pair defenseman makes $8m? |

Fox, Trouba, Schneider is A LOT more Stanley cup likely than Fox, Schneider, third pairing replacement.
Not to mention the qualities Trouba brings that a likely third pairing replacement would not. |

We’re really going to act like point production is what makes Trouba an $8m player? |

If Fox was not here or was not what he turned into Trouba is likely PP1 with increased points totals.
Also, nobody obliterates people like Trouba and the entire team views him as one of their leaders. He was nearly named Captain before the season started. |

Come on. I know you understand the game better than this. Trouba brings a host of things you need that we don't get from the rest of our d corp. At least, not all from one source. Earning your salary doesn't relate solely to the number of points you score, especially as a defenseman. |

Of course he hits and blocks shots. Eats minutes. But again this is a hard salary cap league and that doesn’t justify $8m. I’m sorry it just doesn’t.
I’m looking at this form strictly a business standpoint. |

He was and Drury shot that down bc we live in a cap league. He knows he has to move him in 2024 |

I think it does (as evidence by the majority here supporting Trouba) and you just don’t accept that it does.
Edit: Zdeno Chara was making $7-7.5 when he was playing a very similar game to Trouba (2006-2017). That’s almost a spot on comp. |

I don't disagree that he will be moved in 2024 when his contract is modified. But, I do disagree that he hasn't been earning his contract. Yes, it has it's difficulties since Covid altered the salary cap landscape. But, I would consider it far from an albatross. |

Check my edit re Chara. Very similar player all around. You need guys like them to have success. It’s a must. |

Your first mistake is judging Trouba on pts, smh.
Let’s not remember he probably turned both series’ that we won around by himself |

I respect you and your opinion but you can’t be comparing trouba to chara. Chara was the best defenseman in the league for a while. Offensively and defensively. He’s a HOF. Trouba is definitely not |

People also have to stop looking at things in a vacuum. Remember what our right side looked like before he was signed? |

Well, maybe not. If the cap keeps going up (significantly) they might keep him. But we will see. There will be a lot of young guys expecting to get paid and it might not be possible to do it all. There are so many different things that can happen over the next couple years. |
