I respect you and your opinion but you can’t be comparing trouba to chara. Chara was the best defenseman in the league for a while. Offensively and defensively. He’s a HOF. Trouba is definitely not
- nyrangers2

You might want to look at Chara's totals. I was shocked to see how low they are. He was definitely better defensively but not that much better offensively. Highest season is 52 points.

Edit: Trouba has a higher PPG than Chara. .43 vs .4

Your first mistake is judging Trouba on pts, smh.

Let’s not remember he probably turned both series’ that we won around by himself

Not that I agree with hit by majority of contracts are structured around point production as it’s biggest factor

He consistently put up 40 plus points per year but was elite defensively. His contract was justified.

It doesn’t matter who it is or what team it is…when a player gets lumped in with everyone that plays on a teams #1PP unit, it’s unfair to the guy that doesn’t. Laf gets the same rap

It’s a huge factor in why he doesn’t have as many pts.

Speaking of Laf, if he isn’t in strome a spot next year they are absolutely insane

People also have to stop looking at things in a vacuum. Remember what our right side looked like before he was signed?

You could argue he was the best overall defenseman in the league for a 2-3 year window

Especially 2009 when he won the Norris

Chara topped out at 52 points. Far from one of the best offensive players in the game. A very great defender though, which is what brought him to HOF status. Not to mention the years those contracts were signed. Without doing the math, I’d bet Chara’s % contribution to the cap was similar if not more than Trouba’s is to ours.

And if the cap was 5-7 million higher bc we never had corona and a flat cap no one would even be talking about this. Management has made some bad decisions that have put us further into a cap crunch with the buyouts. But let’s blame Trouba and in some peoples opinion the extra 1 million he gets paid. 🤦‍♂️

Being the best offensively means most points. What are you talking about.

I was saying overall, not offensively. I see your original post said offensively. My bad, I need to read better
