There was some speculation among this group that TK and Provy will not do well under Torts. Who can say? They might thrive with more accountability and a strong coach and leadership group. Provy hasn't seemed to respond well to criticism in public, but who knows.
I think the C and the leadership group will be key. Adding a few pieces along the way is a must.
Is it telling that TK and Provy were NOT mentioned as candidates for the C?
Big trade coming. - cdearth23
on the Torts part, maybe Torts will hold the whole team accountable, maybe TK will feel less female doged at, with more peeps to share the love

You don't find it strange that RR's PP scoring started drying up once Dahlin arrived there? If RR were so effective, why'd they start phasing him out on the PP so aggressively? - Tomahawk
No one said he was so effective. You are trying to pretend an AHL guy could replicate his production which is just false. Dahlin is certainly a better candidate but Risto was fine on the PP in buffalo. |

I agree RR should probably be playing ahead of Provorov, who's been worse than an AHL player on the PP |

I would move Atkinson if they could. - MJL
I would too but I think the Torts hire says otherwise

This is why I think they should just hold on to him until the deadline and get ANYTHING for him then. Then he is completely off the books next season and you can use that 7 mil then....Hence why I don't want him traded for Petry and basically have that cap space eaten up for 2 more seasons after that. Petry may be still a good player but he isn't worth that cap hit nor is he the right player for a team that should be rebuilding and banking cap space. - MBFlyerfan

It will be interesting watching a team that’s obsessed with locker room dynamics, try to again bring a guy into the fold that refused a trade months prior. |

Wasn’t someone on here telling me no chance the Panthers were moving on from their coach? You think you know way more than you do bud. - ClaudeFather
it was the same dude that tried to justify that since there were only 3 teams without coaches, there wasnt 5 better options for Trotz than the Flyers
also the same guy that just said RR wasnt brought in to decrease goals against |

Same guy who said only 3 teams will make an offer for Debrincat. He was trying to rival JD. Although the McAvoy comments on the other thread surely kept pace.

RR is not a strong PP player... this is his effectiveness above a replacement player on the PP for every season of his career in BUF:
21-22 -0.04
20-21 -0.13
19-20 -0.06
18-19 +0.09
17-18 +0.03
16-17 +0.22
15-16 +0.11
14-15 -0.16
13-14 -0.01
RR's basically been no better than if you tossed a random AHL player on the ice
BUF started using him net front for a reason... he's not that good at the point. His big shot doesn't get through.
To put those numbers in perspective, Makar was +0.88 this season on the PP. - Tomahawk
And Bobby Orr would have been +1.5 if they had this metric in his era. Not a fair comparison at all.

I want Atkinson as the captain, but really don't care all that much. I just pick him cause I think he would do the best job of selling what Torts is bringing. A phuck you attitude would be VERY much welcomed after these last two years of sissies on skates. Guys gotta buy in or it doesn't work. Atkinson is the best man for the job in that regard. Coots just seems like a rather stoic dude that won't help get the team revved up and Laughts just seems invisible for long stretches. Thanks! |

I think you make a good point in terms of buy in. Atkinson is certainly in Tortorella's corner. Not sure where the stereotypes about players come about. Laughton is one of the most consistent players on the team.

It means exactly that... if you put Nick Seeler or Randy Jones or Ryan Parent out there in place of RR for all those minutes, they'd likely have generated the same results. - Tomahawk
Randy Jones wasn’t an AHL player. I hated Randy Jones but he played a lot of NHL hockey and saw a decent amount of PP time.
Again, I get that some of you hate Ristolainen but some of your arguments aren’t realistic.
No chance either guy is getting 20+ points 3 seasons in a row - ClaudeFather

I think someone mentioned it already. He was vocal about wanting Torts here. Don't see Chuck getting rid of the guy that has a relationship with Torts right after Torts becomes the coach. - rayc16
The two best coaches on the market for as long as they were in Trotz and Torts are steak. The other coaches are chicken nuggets. I don’t care what Atkinson says, the Flyers would have been interested with or without Atkinson on the roster. |

Dahlin is a fricken former first overall pick! What does Dahlin taking over Ristolainen’s spot at the head of the table have to do with Risto’s production being equal to an AHLer’s at the NHL level? I love that it’s being completely ignored that Buffalo is one of the five worst teams the passed decade but somehow it comes down to what Ristolainen does. |
