They just couldn’t find the right mix so they kept tweaking. MacKinnon’s first year in 2013/14 they had 52 wins 112 points. Then they struggled for three years until they got rid of older players (like Iginla & Tanguay) and or underperforming players, they drafted decent in that timeframe. Then they took off.

MacKinnon was pretty mediocre offensively his first four years, then he took off. Getting Rantanen at #10 in 2015 was really a great catalyst to success.

Saw this…so many teams could do this but a fun exercise nonetheless.

Bowers struggling in AHL, Kamenev back to Europe. Hallander picked was traded.

Years later Girard and Byram are what they got for Duchene. Still pretty good but consider how great the haul was hailed as at that time. Stienburg is a PPG NCAA player showing a bit of promise.

It’s really bad. But almost as bad is the fact that the oilers traded the pick that got Barzal and a pick that was traded up a few spots for Beauvillier for Griffin (frank)in Reinhart.

That was a real headscratcher.
