Me too. He coached Montreal well in the playoffs last year when Julien was out. He's paid his dues too. - GPHawksfan

Seth Jones rights to strome 2022 3rd for white Murry 7th overall 2nd 2023 Ridley craig - Scott1977
You are too generous. It is probably too much salary coming back for the Sens. They have to sign a bunch of talented kids this summer and again next year.

I am so &^%$ing tired of all of these posts about using the draft to rebuild the team. The number of draft picks that become true NHL caliber players is so low that it is mind boggling. A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush, keep DeBrincat, he is like a golden goose. The players acquired for him will most almost certainly NOT be him or produce like him. Strome is a keeper too despite his up and down career. As for Kane, don't make the same mistake that was made with Bobby Hull. Make Kane a Hawk for life. Toews is another story entirely, he isn't even close to the player he once was. If he wants to go then trade him to anyone who will take him, retain half of his salary and suddenly you GAIN 5MM in cap space versus having a 30 point player making 10MM a year. The draft CANNOT shape a team in 5 years...too many draftees never amount to anything. |

If Murphy is still here, then by the time he first hits the ice. |

Nah. I'll give him the full training camp. That's what many here said JC just needed. |

There’s a lot of asinine opinions proffered on this board every day. This is one of those posts. |

Vegas has handshake agreement with Reilly Smith on an extension. Take Broissoit with a sweetener off their hands. - boilermaker100
Brossoit would be a good addition, but I’d make Vegas pay if they needed help. |

Theo I really like the way you lay out your reasoning in a balanced way. I copied a section and reprinted over on the Sens thread where they are having the opposite debate of trading draft picks (#7 pick overall) for established players.
I have proposed that the Sens should offer the #7 pick plus a 2nd and 3rd (all from this year) plus Matt Murray and Colin White for Seth Jones. Sens fans think the offer is way too much. - spatso
Thanks for the kudos, spatso. Appreciate it.
I'm not very good at trade proposals but try to make them balanced for both teams if at all possible. It depends on how well I know the other team's roster and cap situations.
For your trade proposal, I would make that trade but can understand why other Senators fans would not.
Here is a trade I fiddled around with weeks ago on CapFriendly. Your proposal seems more realistic to me.
Senators receive:
* Seth Jones
Blackhawks receive:
* Matt Murray
* Nikita Zaitsev
* Ridly Greig
* 2022 1st
The Hawks would need to take some salary back and taking back just one player with salary may not be enough hence why it's Murray + Zaitsev, not just one of them. |

And I really don't think a team is going to give up a top 10 pick for Jones. Maybe a 1st in the 20's but top 10 especially 7th overall is likely crazy.

It should go without saying, but…Not all draft picks will make it, but virtually everyone who makes it is a draft pick. The vast majority of the 2010 Hawks were drafted by the Hawks within a 5 year span. |

I don't have a lot of confidence in their pool of prospects based on guys they have labeled as untouchable or drafted in certain slots.
Their internal scouting has been atrocious (historically) and how they have drafted on the blue line has been not good.
My assumption is they will be starting from square one but that could be incorrect as well. - fattybeef
Agreed, it's not like Rockford had a fabulous defense.

And some would argue that Bowman was looney tunes. Or at least very desperate. |
