interesting, incentive deal makes sense, but they still need to trim fat off the roster, not gonna be easy to do.

Defensively the B's can match up just fine with either of Bolts or Avs...

Hampus and McAvoy are a top top pair. The depth after that on the back end is solid.

They jus need some better production from anyone not on the top line.

and stay healthy..

But let’s be honest here. When you’re watching the Tampa Bay Lightning and Colorado Avalanche battle it out for the Stanley Cup, do you feel the Bruins are anywhere close to either of those two teams?

Unfortunately, no. Boston is very far behind either team. With Bergeron back there is some hope there but woof, he needs lots and lots of help.

This has nothing to do with Cassidy. With only 18 points needed to reach 1000 for his career, I would have been SHOCKED he didn't re-sign regardless of coach or team make-up. No different than Krejci...would not shock me at all to see him back in the black and gold for one season to reach 1000 games (needs 38). Now Krecji...his decision I could see being related to Cassidy. His will also be dependent on Pasta sticking around.
With Bergeron, this team is not dead in the water. Move a little dead weight and stay afloat at the beginning of the season until people get healthy. If Lysell develops similar to Pasta (not out of the question)...things could be interesting for one more go-round.

All but guarantees they will go another year getting older, slower and drop another 5–10 points from this past year.

It’s always painful to watch a team try to hold on when it’s time to let go

Patrice the Savior! That's gotta be good news for y'all. Even at 36, he remains one of the best. It's actually pretty amazing!

"stay afloat a beginning of season"? The players will be out for more than a few weeks.

By time Marchand and McAvoy are back the Bruins will be out of the playoffs.

Seriously - start the rebuild. Bruins likely don't make the playoffs next year - let alone win the Cup.

Childish as it sounds I don't ever want him to hang them up. Happy to see him back for one more.

I’m curious. In your brain, have the Bruins not already started the rebuild? They pretty much only have core pieces signed long term and will be Shedding a ton of salary after this season. Presently constructed, they are still a contender and have young cornerstone pieces in key areas (except center)

Pasta will be signed long term and Bergeron playing year by year will still allow them to focus on developing the center position.

That being said, considering the injuries I would much more comfortable next season with Bruce at the helm. He has proven that he can get the team ready no matter who is out of the lineup.

Don't forget, the Blues were WAY out of the playoff picture on Jan 1, 2019...we all know how that ended. No way am I writing off this season before it even starts.

I will never get tired of Bergy either. I hope he is around for more than just another year, but I also wouldn't blame him if he chooses to retire at any time. He has earned it.

Rebuilding or not, if I were the Bruins, I’d be more than happy to have a young core learn how the game is played from a guy like him.

Hell, any team would.

I like when I see players finish out their careers where they made their home.

Good for Bergeron. Sounds like it’ll be team friendly where he is both affordable, and he there to mentor the younger teammates.

Bruins are stuck with Ulmark for another 3 years.

Bergeron might sign for 1 more year. Who knows after that - we may not have a 1C.

If Bergeron retires, who knows what Pasta will do?

Only saving grace at that time is the Bruins won't have that anchor of the putrid Foligno contract.

Let's fix your assessment. Ullmark is only locked in here for the upcoming season after that he can be moved. Bergeron is signing for this year. Pasta will be signed this off season or he will be shipped out...that decision will be made now, not some point down the road based upon a Bergeron decision for the following season.

If pasta doesn't resign before the start of the season, the bruins are in a rebuild. There is no retool that will replace his presence. He either re-signs, or gets traded for some kind of Sweeney -esque return. If pasta goes, a lot of the bruins excitement goes with it.

This off season is gonna be touch and go. If bergy is coming back, and they want to seem legitimate for next season, there needs to be a lot of cap clearing and smart decisions made. Is Sweeney capable of this? (frank)ing doubtful

The Bruins will be announcing a 1 yr Krejci deal as well this summer. I know all the bozos will say team is too old however, based on the Teams drafting there is no other way. Krejc signs and it is an immediate upgrade for your 2C.
If you can’t move anyone in a trade then Haula can replace Smith on the 3rd line. Giving you 2 good centers there. You now have a top 6 that can compete with any team in the League. You NEED toughness TB is showing it time and time again. If they had any room (which they don’t) you go get Manson and it makes a world of difference on the back end, As constituted team will get pushed around again, so sick of it
I think this teams problem is D after Charlie & Hampus. Everyone else is just so bad
Goaltending will be even better next year. That’s the Hope. Could go either way

This just seems like wishful thinking.

Even IF he actually wanted to come back, how you figure Bruins fit both Bergeron and Krejci under the Cap?

Purely incentive laden contracts with most money not counting until next year when they have more room.

More room how?

- Ulmark still there
- DeBrusk still there
- Coyle still there
- Pasta needs to be signed.

Anyone coming off the books still needs to be replaced. Sure losing the Foligno contract is a plus. But Bruins won't have nearly the "room" you suggest they will.

Please check capfriendly.com...there is plenty of room after the 22/23 season. After the anticipated Pasta contract there is about $12M left over. Debrusk and Ullmark aren't givens on the roster after this season (heck, Debrusk isn't a given for this season), both can be moved.

Salary dumps cost draft-picks.

12M left over ... to fill about 8 slots including Swayman and 1C and 2C.

I'm not nearly as optimistic as you are.
