Salary dumps cost draft-picks.
12M left over ... to fill about 8 slots including Swayman and 1C and 2C.
I'm not nearly as optimistic as you are. - Nasty_Duck

Probably talking about this year, and offloading one or two contracts that are a waste.
Speaking of a waste, Sweeney extension official. |

There’s reason for concern but you’re definitely being overly pessimistic. There are avenues to really change up the lineup and get younger and faster
-Foligno buyout would be cheap, but comes off the books next year anyway. Maybe they can Ltir him lol
-Smith, Gryz, Reilly, Nosek and Ullmark (next year) are all players that I think are expendable and wouldn’t cost assets to get rid of (~17M right there)
-Steen and lysell look like they could be middle 6 guys as soon as next year
-Studnicka is a wildcard. I imagine he specifically is a guy they want the new coach to give an opportunity too
-Krejci could really be back
I’d love to see them trade debrusk for Puljujarvi. I think that’s a trade that would help everyone. My dream lineup to start next season (or when healthy)
Marchy Bergy Puljujarvi
Hall Krejci Pasta
Haula Coyle Lysell/Steen
Freddy Studnicka Steen/Mcglaughlin

I like your lineup, but I think you put WAAAAAAAAY too much faith in Sweeney to get that much done. I enjoy the optimism, I just dont share it haha. Like your ideas though
I honestly dont think what he said is as pessimistic as you might think. They have already indicated that there likely wont be any buyouts (but who knows, they also told Cassidy his job was safe). The lineup is going to be a patchwork until December anyways. And we may not even see Marchy at full strength until toward the end of the season because hips can take a to recondition after a surgery. Hoping for sooner.
To me, if there isn't a Pasta extension in place before the start of the season there is plenty of reasons to be pessimistic. |

At some point this off season, Don is gonna have to get creative and clear out some salary. As mentioned before lots of options that shouldn’t cost additional assets.
I think they probably give Foligno another shot at contributing something.
I hope they can get something done with Krejci and suddenly the top 6 is 🔥!
Bergeron getting signed is massive and I will be patiently optimistic Don fixes the salary mess before the season. |

Gryz, Smith, Ullmark, Coyle, Reilly, Nosek, Foligno, Forbort, Debrusk.
Start clearing it out Don!
Although I did like Reilly in the playoffs. I want Gryz so far off this roster please just get it done. |

Not sure I agree with Forbort. Decent 3rd pairing guy. Blocks a ton of shots. One of the few guys not named McAvoy who isn't completely useless, soft or a midget, on the Bruins D core. |

Keep:
(F) Pasta, Bergy, Marchy Hall, Haula, Lysell, Beecher, Steen, Merkulov, Jellvik, Harrison (maybe Frederic?)
(D) McAvoy, Lindholm, Forbort, lohrei, (maybe Zboril?)
(G) Swayman
Everything else should have a price tag on it, most of them will likely be bargain bin prices. |

I agree Forbort is ok and not a liability. His 3 million is a little rich for a 3rd pairing guy in which you should have these plugs in your system for 1/2 the price. |

Don't agree on getting rid of Forbert. Big body who is a shot blocking machine very good for 3rd pairing and PK duty.
I wouldn't look to move Debrusk until Marchy is back...meaning FULLY back. I would give serious consideration to a top line while Marchy is out of Debrusk playing in his natural LW position, Bergy, and Lysell on the RW (assuming Lysell can prove out during camp).
Everything hinges on Pasta...if he is not signed by the end of the off-season we are in real bad shape. Can't let him walk for nothing so it becomes a matter of before the season starts or trade deadline.
