The key to winning the Cup, is to get some lucky bounces, have some calls go your way and keep battling when things don't go your way. It's not about adding in a new goalie or a new player or a new coach.. Anyone that says they know what the Leafs need to win, is hoping/wishing for a change.
The Leafs can win the Cup next year, if someone like Holl isn't called for interference. - PatC80
Or maybe the guy waterskiing of of Mathews jersey in overtime gets called. |

It was an awful trade and I'm blown away people are still going to this length to put some positive fluff on it.
It doesn't matter that Kadri was playing on our 3rd line, he was a 2C locked in at a premium rate for significant term. A one off RHD that never fit the mold and a slightly above average gadget 2nd/3rd line tweener they then had to extend doesn't cut it or anything close to cutting it.
If that's how we manage our assets I suppose everyone is content with trading Nylander for equivalent because some can argue they 'need to' for cap purposes? Don't think so. - joel878
Kadri didn't make it easy to win any trade.
The situation sucked to begin with, wish Kadri was more mature at that time but he wasn't. |

Was that my point or was my point that I think they won't win without the goalie stealing a game or two. - bobbyisno1
From your phrasing I'm gonna guess the 2nd one.
I'll bring you another point here, how many games has Kuemper stole for the Avs to win a championship?
Campbell is good enough to win the cup on a good team. The Leafs just need to be slightly better in front of him. |

Currently tied for first place in the 2022-2023 season, can't deny that.

If he was willing to sign here for a price that is fair then he would be coming back. A team will overpay for him in FA and it wont be the Leafs.
Campbell is a fine starter and this is just all about getting the best value out of your team with the cap available. That is the goal here for the Leafs...whatever players they can add and subtract to give them value in their contract.
Probably will not be Campbell. |

You kinda just contradicted yourself no?
Perhaps the last sentence should be "the leafs can win the cup next year if they are able to battle through when someone like holl is called for interference."
But adding a new player, goalie etc can also help you win a cup....see the Avs.

Bang on, that is what I say I chuckle at...when people think they have the key.
Plenty of ways to get better.
Take into account cost(both cap and prospect/player value going the other way) and who is available and make the team the best you can.
If that's a elite goalie sweet, if its a top 6 forward then sweet again, if it is some cheaper bottom 6 players that have great contracts then awesome. Just make the team better and do not overpay. - Santo_44
I've been beating the John Gibson drum for a while, because I think he's better than Jack Campbell. Mainly, because Campbell hasn't proven anything yet..
The Leafs forward group is solid still... The defense, as a unit, is good enough I think.. Lily has been better than I thought he was and he should have played more in round 1.
The goaltending, I like Campbell, I really do, but I just don't see him stealing a game/series for the Leafs.. Sometimes, a goalie needs to win you a game. In his 2 playoffs, he hasn't outplayed his opponent. Granted, it was against Carey Price and Vasilievskiy, but in a 7 game series, your goalie can't just "hang in there." They need to outshine the other goalie. |

Gibson hasn't proven much, if anything he's proven he can be far worse than Campbell and a lot of other goalies in the league consistently for about 3 years now. |

Second best odds to win it all. Avs are first but they (frank)ed themselves by damaging the Cup. I donβt know why everyone is worried about a goalie.

No fluff, that is what occurred.
Imo it wasnt an awful trade, the leafs got what they needed at the time.
It then opened up cap space the following year to continue to make improvements.
Kadri was suspended the two following years with the avs as well.

Roster changes will happen regardless, who knows what the right mix of players is.. Maybe the Leafs will sign Corey Perry and will be guaranteed to lose in the Cup final?.
Wasn't trying to contradict myself, just stating that the Leafs didn't win because they couldn't battle through all the calls that went against them. |

Confirmed, Domino's is the worst pizza I've ever had. It's so bad it's not even good in a bad pizza is still good way. It's not even pizza. It was a struggle to eat the whole thing, but I did anyway. |

I think people are discussing two different things. Did the trade turn out not so good? Yeah it wasn't that good.
If you go back in time to when it happen, did it have the potential to be a good trade and did it look good enough coming off another suspension for Kadri? Yeah.
Not all trades work out. I wouldn't call it a disaster because Kerfoot has been excellent in his role for the leafs especially in the playoffs. Kadri has had some solid years in Colorado and an amazing career year this year.

Sandin not signed yet...CJ said it but I am speculating as well that the Leafs might have some trade options and he would be the main piece. We'll see, would love to have him here long term as well.
I also think Lil earned a better contract than Sandin. |
