There's talk that Faber wasn't going to sign with the Kings, which would put him in a similar situation as Ryan Johnson with the Sabres.
- kingcong39

Faber and Johnson are pretty even in many respects.
16 + Johnson on paper is stronger than 19 + Faber...

According to the draft value charts;
16 is stronger than 19 by about a late 3rd rounder.
Johnson at 31 and Faber at 45 is roughly the difference of a late 2nd rounder.

Good player in Fiala and the contract isn't bad either.

Sabres have 8 picks in 1st & 2nd rounds in the next two drafts. Those picks should bolster the prospect pipeline rather significantly.

you can sign either Trocheck or Copp
sign Klingberg
trade for one of the caps goalies

be under the cap

and still keep your picks and prospects and ice a team on paper that can compete with the bruins and leafs this fall

instead we are writing a million dollar check to bishop this weekend

plus if johnson does not sign with the team that has his rights, they will get a late second rd pick

We don't have the wealth of prospects like the Kings do. They're loaded, and that's why this won't make a dent.

We're also not coming off a 99pt year like they are. They're in a different spot altogether in their rebuild.

We also don't know who they asked for. You giving up JJ or Quinn? Maybe the Wild WANTED Faber, specifically. Maybe the Wild wanted a defensive prospect, which we have pretty much zero of (Laaksonen? That doesn't get that trade done, that's for sure).

Every time there's a trade made, 'The Sabres could've beat that!" How do we know?

Now they definitely shouldn’t try to upgrade, you don’t want to get in the way of Sean Malone.

Sabres have the #1 rated prospect pool and are about to add 3 more first rounders

So it’s wrong.

It still amazes me that so many people are are upset at even the slightest suggestion of Adams not making major moves this offseason. Even if it shakes out this way (and again, people are getting upset over the thought of it), so what? After more than a decade of really terrible organizational moves we are on the upswing. I see nothing wrong with letting things shake out with the kids in the short term. We aren't contenders this year. And guess what? There will be another Kevin Fiala next year and the year after that. When we are ready to mix in bigger names we are going to have a giant pipeline from which to draw from.

Power's opinion, is not wrong.

Maybe the gm wanted to look good to future "wild" players and moved fiala where he wanted to go.

Which was not buffalo....

Interesting...

Lian Bichsel. I think he’s going to be a fine defensive defenseman. I think he might chip in offensively. I feel like I can find 10 Lian Bichsel’s in free agency every year for a price that isn’t going to break the bank.

The great GM's in any sport take risks to improve their teams. Is KA a great GM? It's not the time to say yes or no. He's playing it smart and safe until its time to jump into the risk trades or FA signings. It has to be when they are meaningful moves to compete as a cup contender. His main concerns now are drafting the right prospects and signing players who will fit into his team as temps.
I can see next year as another show me what you can do year for the kids and see how much progress they have made. The following year will be the big fish landing year. Look and see who will be available then and start to dream.

small market teams that have cap space, if they want to compete should use that space on actual players instead of paper moves

our gm is more focused on waiting for a blah goalie craig anderson to decide if he wants to come back for 1 more year
