So lets summarize.

The team is only a year away from the darkest 2 years of its existence. In an amazing turn of events, we actually had an unbelievable season given the circumstances. Just about all of the prospects had fantastic years (and the ones that didn't looked good when healthy). We have the #1 rated prospect pool and a ton more prospects on the way. On top of that we are going to be adding 3 top-flight prospects to the team next year.

And free agency hasn't even started.

Never mind all of that... they traded for a retired player and signed another player to be the emergency goalie. And we haven't shown interest in signing a 37 year old center or defenseman.

I am a convert now. I too want to be " that guy" and snicker at every move they make as if there is no plan and it is the last move that they will ever make.

Oh come on.

That’s just insane

We had an ok season. We’re an NHL franchise for god sakes. We’re picking top 10

Why not sign a 17-12-2 goalie that likes buffalo and is willing to play for 1.5 million.

Who's the last 17 win sabre ? Injury prone ullmark maybe?

You're pretty upset for June 30th

- Boss34

Because there's a better chance of me winning the Powerball without even buying a ticket than Anderson playing 17 games this year, let alone winning them.

team is never going to be more stacked with high end prospects then now

- homiedclown

After drafting 3 guys in the 1st round this year our prospect pool won’t be better?

Hmmmmmm

So then the Sabres being one of the worst 10 teams in the league means the goaltending was also that bad then No? Since winning = good and the Sabres didn’t do a lot of that.
- ImThatGuy

If the same goalie played all 82 games and led the Sabres to a bottom 10 team - yes

17-12-2 is not bottom 10 stats , you get this right?

Were not discussing dell....

If - and it's still an if - the Sabres do not address the goaltending position in a meaningful way yet this summer, will you feel differently?
- Hank Balling

Absolutely. As was said earlier, I think everyone would be unhappy IF they run back only Anderson and UPL. But this whole discussion is like some kind of straw man argument. People are talking about the theoretical as if it already happened. It is apparently human nature to want to swallow swords all day long.

you got 4 picks in the top 41 this year

4 picks in the first 2 rounds next year

dahlin, power, sameulsson on the back end

tage, skinner, cozens, casey, krebs, tuch up front with possible olofsson

quinn and peterka ready to go to nhl

vets in girgens and okposo

time to find a drury, teppo and mckee/warrener type guys and grab a goalie

I mean the prospects are stacked better now then in 2004

- homiedclown

I’m not disagreeing with you.

They could make all of their picks this year and still make some waves in the trade/free agent market to satisfy the above.

From the indications though, they are punting to next offseason to make their big moves, and he is setting himself up for a make or break offseason.

Just have to look back to the most recent nearly-complete seasons.....Ullmark and Hutton. Might want to retract that one.

What part of it is insane? We all loved this team at the end of last year. The fact that we are arguing over bringing in washed-up vets tells me that we are in a pretty good spot. Everything is trending in the right direction - why isn't that a good thing?

Better yet.... how many franchises would you trade with right now?

Correct, so lets continue to see exactly what we have in these prospects.

Where is the break tap? We turned things around by dumping Ralph and letting the kids play in all situations. They had a hell of a 3 months at the end, even with mediocre goaltending. We've got 3 new top-flight prospects that are being added to the roster on top of all of that. I want to see Krebs and Mitts have a full year at center to see what I have. If they don't work out then I'll take some assets and get a stud center in 2 years. I don't want to see either of them playing 3rd line wing so that we can watch Malkin in the last years of his career.

- Slump Buster

Your entire response is summed up in five words “at least it’s not Ralph”

That’s the literal bar from this teams fan base right now.

I'll only speak for myself, but I think Adams has been telling (and showing) us his plan for months. I can't see them making a move for a better goalie unless the music stops for Holtby and the last chair is in Buffalo

So you consider finishing bottom 10 an unbelievable season. Just to clarify.

Would you do 9+goalafson+2nd or prospect for 2OA
- dmarsden2988

The fans of opposing teams have interest in Goalofsson ha? Very interesting. I’d say it wouldn’t happen until Devils were on the clock and Slafkovsky was still on the board. Only thing I really heard coming out of the combine was impression Slaf made on teams. Loved how he laughed at Wright saying he put enough work in to be the number one overall. I like Goalofsson a lot and would prefer it be someone else, but would have to do it.

kicking the can down the road

so why not trade dahlin and build around power if they are going to wait 2 more years to try to be good

- homiedclown

Welp,
- Power likely takes a couple years to develop
- Samuelsson probably takes a couple years to develop
- Dahlin certainly can take another year to more fully develop
- Bryson could certainly need another year to develop
- Cozens needs another couple of years to develop
- Krebs needs a couple more years develop
- Mitts needs another season to develop
- Tage needs another year of developing his consistency
- UPL needs another year of development in the AHL
- JJP needs a couple years to develop
- Quinn needs a couple years to develop
- Asplund needs another year of development
- Girgenson needs his last contract year to skate the F out of here

Tuch, Okposso, Skinner and Olofsson are ready to compete though

None of the above restricts Adams from making a deal for a top 4 Dman and a starting G for 2 years. I don't want them to make a deal for a top 6 F...I rather see how the aforementioned F's develop.

The Rangers, Habs, Leafs, Red Wings, Blackhawks and Bruins all accomplished it prior to 1967.

I'm sure of that
