So lets summarize.
The team is only a year away from the darkest 2 years of its existence. In an amazing turn of events, we actually had an unbelievable season given the circumstances. Just about all of the prospects had fantastic years (and the ones that didn't looked good when healthy). We have the #1 rated prospect pool and a ton more prospects on the way. On top of that we are going to be adding 3 top-flight prospects to the team next year.
And free agency hasn't even started.
Never mind all of that... they traded for a retired player and signed another player to be the emergency goalie. And we haven't shown interest in signing a 37 year old center or defenseman.
I am a convert now. I too want to be " that guy" and snicker at every move they make as if there is no plan and it is the last move that they will ever make. - Slump Buster
No one wants to be patient. I don't blame people who don't want to be, but some of us see what they're doing in a positive light.. others, not so much. And that's ok.
Reality is, the roster we have can't compete deep into the playoffs. The core of this team is young and developing and there's nothing you can do about it except to allow it to develop. You can trade out your young guys and see what happens, but I can promise you it will end in a dumpster fire.
Strap in (frank)ers, this is the ride we're on, like it or not.

There is a massive difference in wanting to trade away all the young guys and wanting to trade away possibly just one of them for an established very good player.
I’ve not seen anyone say to date they wanna trade away all the young pieces we have

Would you do 9+goalafson+2nd or prospect for 2OA - dmarsden2988
no. considering how the Sabres seem to think that the top 6-7 players are all going to impact their teams similarly. Which I don't totally disagree with.
It's not even the fact that they brought back Craig Anderson. It's that there was no hurry to do so. If they took some swings via trade and free agency and came up empty, it would be a different story. You don't make a paper move and re-sign the oldest goaltender in hockey (I think) in June if you plan on upgrading.
I really hope I'm wrong, but unless Kevyn Adams has a knack for (frank)ing with peoples' heads, his plan is already written on the wall pretty clearly. - buffalofan19
You said it well. This doesn't look nearly as bad if it's not their first real moves of the off-season and they can say they explored other/better options.

Nothing wrong with signing Anderson now
He’s insurance in case we can’t get a better UFA to come here
Having an NHL goalie signed, in theory, makes us look less desperate when attempting to trade for another goalie as well
Signing Anderson *in no way* prevents us from bringing in another goalie

Hear me out.
GMKA : we’re interested in one of your goalies.
Other GM: desperate I see, overpay us.
GMKA: No, this is what we are offering. If someone can beat that let us know.
Do u think the Sabres are moving in the right direction?
You previously have stated that u like all the young talent we have
How good we become is gonna be based on the development of that young talent
Signing Malkin won’t make Power grow up any faster
Signing Letang won’t keep Peterka from making rookie mistakes
Signing Kuemper won’t mean that we win every close game we are in
Bc of all the young talent we have,
this team will still be a work in progress
Can’t accelerate the development of the kids simply bc management has made mistakes in the past that has resulted in a playoff-less streak

That's kind of the point I'm making here. Outside of the bolded, there's absolutely nothing we can do to "be good/great/insert adjective" other than to let the core of this team continue to develop.
Add talent sparingly that lines up with our long term views.
I highly doubt Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin are signing up for that poop. More people need to consider the player thoughts here. Which means we need to lean more into trades. And apparently, logically, trade costs are high right now, as is the case every year before the draft.
I'll say it until I'm blue in the face. Do what you need to do to add 1A G, top 4 D, top 6 F, preferably both of those skaters under 26.
