My way of thinking got the residents of Denver a parade this week
- Pegullaville

Having the 4th overall pick turn out to be Bobby Orr? The Avs are the Avs. Was Nazim Kadri an analytics gem, or is he a dirty scumbag that oldschool meatheads like on their team?

The Avs have important players who have been on that team for a decade and new editions who just got there a year ago And people who have been on the team 5 years.

Could you be more specific about what in your thinking is represented by the Colorado Avalanche that also doesn't represent good scouting and an understanding of the toughness it takes to win in the playoffs?

Points wise, what were your expectations for them last season?
- IonSabres

A little more than half a point a game. I gave a Cozens a C, an average rookie season, and if he didn't show the grit he has it would have been a D. If he can't develop some scoring touch he becomes another bust for a 1st rounder. As much as I love the Z train, one of the reasons we suck is we draft 3rd line grinders in the 1st round and 3rd pair goons in the 1st round (Z train, Risto, maybe Cozens).

Krebs and Mitts...6 and 7 goals. That's terrible. Mitts either stays healthy this season or is gone. Krebs had a bad rookie year to me. A couple highlight passes once every ten games is nothing when our 2nd line got caved in on a nightly basis.

Besides goalie, it was that 2nd line (Krebs, Cozens, and Vinnie) who got caved in most nights and cost us a ton of games.

Sure. Bear in mind all three 1st rounders. There is some level of expectation.
- lacaprup

They are all first rounders and - when healthy - I thought that all of them look like they are on track to be who we hoped they would be. Krebs probably should have been in the minors for a bit longer but he looked fine. I like Cozens to be our Peca. I still think Mitts is going to be a good middle 6 center in this league. I wasn't overly concerned with chances being buried last year.

The Avs were one of the first teams to invest heavily in analytics.

They then surrounded their core of top 5 picks (grr tanking) with several players with very fancy graphs and won a cup.

In fact, this years Avs team gives the 2008 Red Wings a run for their money in terms of best team this century.

Mikheyev is a UFA. Why isn't he under the money section?

Name several players. Do they also have pims, goals and assists? Typical analytics man claim credit in broad strokes.

While we're at it, notice the 2022 Yankees who abandoned analytics this past offseason? Should they have HR or K Gary Sanchez back? Should Glayber Torres go back to SS where he is clearly more valuable?

Can we make a bet on Jesse Puljujarvi aka 1st class stiff? I bet the stiff can't crack 50 points next season. What say you and your expected whatever? Loser has to change Screenname to winners choice for a year.

Won’t command a high AAV due to not being able to turn his impacts into points.

Get it done KAGM

- Pegullaville

This is the type of player we should be targeting. Younger side with high pedigree, good analytics, hasn’t put it together.

Could be our nikushkin. Trade Vegas 2nd.

I heard Johnson might show up to prospects camp? Don’t let him leave

Let's have some fun! What would be a suitable offer?
1-Cat/Murphy going for the combo pack.
2-Lawson Crouse
3- Mikheyev
Money
1-Manson
2- Lyubushkin
3- Nichushkin

- Buff36

1-Cat/Murphy going for the combo pack.
Olo, 28, Johnson, 41
2-Lawson Crouse
41

Money
1-Manson. Not interested
2- Lyubushkin $3.9m -$4.25m
3- Nichushkin, I would expect a significant regression for him if he came to the Sabres, therefore he would be too expensive @$6.5m+
4- Mikheyev, $3.75m

I'm just not a fan of adding to the F group this year, as I want to see another year of development to see what they really have and where the gaps are...hence my F prices are probably low. Also, I see red flags in over paying in FA for guys who are one year wonders coming off playing on an absolutely stacked roster in Toronto and Colorado

Whether he hits 50 points or not, has nothing to do with his overall impacts on his line mates.

Do you think it’s a coincidence that Mittelstadt has played the best hockey of his career during his stints with Asplund ?

Jesse P is very good in transition, was one of the few Oilers forwards who played any sort of defence, and drove offence quite well with and without McDavid.

Does he have a lack of finishing ability ? Yes.

However, if he finds that finishing ability, like Val Nichuskin did, you have a steal.

If he doesn’t find that finishing ability, you have a good 200 foot winger that won’t cost much.

Val Nichuskin literally went a whole year without scoring a goal in Dallas, but he had a fancy chart. Seemed to work out for Colorado.

In an article I read today apparently hes worth a 3rd and the players Including mcdavid , Draisaitl don't like him at all..

Definitely have to deep dive why he's not liked Before acquiring that type of player

Oh, so no, you're not willing to back up your arbitrary data with a bet. Got ya. I've never said you're not clever. You are clever enough to know when you are peddling b*******

Who is the Sabres MacKinnon, Rantanen, Kadri, Burakovsky?
I'm not disputing he had a positive impact, but boy he also played with some great/elite/very good players.

Think Lyubushkin would be a nice add, could be a good partner for Power if Joker sputters. Even so would be a good 3RD

No, using points as arbitrary data to say this player is good, or this player is bad, is extremely flawed.

I would have loved to hear your WGR rant though on analytics if the Sabres were to have signed Nichuskin after his goalless season in Dallas.

So a rookie mid 1st and a 2nd year early first were simply underwhelming for you. That's ok. Frame the narrative as such, because they were much better than you give them credit for.
