Again, not giving him a pass, it wasn't smart. Still don't say it's "quitting."

Voluntarily leaving the ice while throwing a temper tantrum. We can call it that.

Yes, it's the PHWA.

Kessel should have won in 2016, agree.

Fedorov should have gotten it in 97

Yohe article this morning paints a grim picture on Malkin …

“ Numerous agents have told me that, after conversations they’ve had with Penguins general manager Ron Hextall, they believe it’s unlikely that Evgeni Malkin is returning to Pittsburgh. Some people I’ve spoken with in the Penguins organization feel the same way.

So, is Malkin gone?

It’s impossible to say, but here’s what I know: Hextall is willing to sign him at a certain price. However, sources said the two sides haven’t been speaking regularly after initial talks when the Penguins’ season ended on May 15. Hockey people who speak with Hextall on a regular basis are very much under the impression that Malkin’s return to the Penguins is no sure thing.”

I have had this feeling for a while that Malkin won't be back. I think they will resign Letang and have a different looking 2nd line.

I have this gut feeling Trocheck is their ideal replacement for Malkin. Maybe sign Trocheck and go after a few solid winger options? Burakovsky, Nichushkin, Palat, Reilly Smith, Giroux (due to his history with Hextall), Domi (idk if Lemieux still may make a push), Rakell and Nick Paul are all available.

If we had a different big splash GM I would believe Forsberg, Fiala, J.T Miller and Gaudreau would be great to build a 2nd line around. I don't think they would be realistic options, but who knows? Maybe Hextall has a plan to make a solid 2nd line (at least I hope so).

Just bought a new bourbon that's my new go-to for my everyday bourbon. Mcfarlane's Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon. For $25 you'll be hard-pressed to find one this smooth. I got it at Total Wine and it's one of those that's "their choice" which usually means they're pushing it for whatever reason, but they hit it on the head with this one.

I agree with this. I worry the Penguins are hell bent on making a major change for the sake of making a major change. It isnt in Hextall's MO to react like this so I wonder where this is coming from.

I think Trocheck is a fine guy to target, but if we realistically expect him to replace Malkin, I think its safe to say we are setting ourselves up for failure.

Anyone else see the story about Trocheck and JT Miller playing in the G.O.A.T League at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex on Wednesday nights? Fvck, if I lived there Id go check it out. 2 future Pens if Geno doesn't sign, perhaps?....

Maybe we should blame the equipment manager who didn't have a stick ready for him in the last minute of Game 6 of the Finals.

It's not incredibly rare, it's actually more rare for a winger. Here's the breakdown:
G - 17
C - 19
D - 12
LW/RW - 9

Fact of the day: In the history of the Conn Smythe Trophy, only 5 players have ever won for the team that lost the Final, and 2 of them have been Flyers (Leach and Hextall).

I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing for the Flyers.

- jmatchett383

Oh wow, 21% of the time its been a D-man and 15% a winger. Didn't think goalies and C's were so close. Thanks for the research.
