If anyone wants to repost their pro-Makar opinions from 2017, 2018 and 2019 then they should do that. Otherwise, they need to STFU. - Feanor
Did people making fun of Hextall hurt your feelings? It’s going to be talked about so suck it up. |

I even revisited consensus rankings from hockey writers and mock experts….most had him going 5th. It’s just getting over the top annoying.
I don’t see any Devils fans whining on passing on him. Sure Hesicher is a nice player, but he’s not close to the level of Makar. Still don’t see Devils fans mentioning Makar daily. - arichardson22
That’s because their pick didn’t end up being the corpse of Ryan Ellis. |

Clarke needs to realize he should be signing autographs, instead of crying about the boogie man that is Hextall.
Let’s say they draft Makar. Does it help? Sure it does, but one player does not change the complete fortunes of a franchise. I have no doubt if they get Makar this franchise immediately digs in that they don’t need to rebuild any further. In the grand scheme, not getting him might be a good thing.
Might ensure this team finally rebuilds properly. Or we can continue on doing this dance for another 5 years. It’s yielded incredible results. |

Lets be real, if all NHL scouts in the NHL knew Makar would be this good and dynamic, wouldn't you think he would have gone 1st overall? It was always Patrick then Nico surged ahead in the last few months. |

Who cares, any of the 3 guys after Patrick would be better than that bum. |

The Flyers center depth is Couturier, Hayes, Laughton, Frost and you want to get rid of Hayes? - Feanor
Yes.
The team is not a contender. What's this depth if your not going anywhere. They also have Laczynski and Patrick brown who are centers.
If your desperate for depth sign a one year rental.
But if you can clear the rest of that deal why would it be bad to see what Frost can do in an elevated role next year. |

I think your kind of missing the point in a way. It just isn't about Maker. People were actually on board with Hextalls plan. But now that we are a couple years away from him, picks he made aren't as good as we thought and that is what has hindered things. Patrick a bust, O'Brien over Miller, Rubstov didn't develop.
Yes everything is hindsight but people are allowed to be frustrated. |

The huge variable here though, is the player development issue. There's no guarantee the Makar playing for Colorado blossoms into that same player here in Philadelphia. There's a strong argument that he wouldn't be that same guy here, and rightly so.

Nah, I don't feel like sucking up the salty tears of hindsight cry babies. You go right ahead, though.
Nothing said about Ron Hextall hurt my feelings even when he was the GM, so it certainly won't hurt them now almost four years after he was fired. Especially when it's people Monday morning quarterbacking a draft from five years ago.

It’s a good thing we keep changing coaches, or identifying players who are cancers.
Yet the men in charge of player development have apparent jobs for life. The Flyers will always take care own their own, even to the detriment of the team.
Very much agree with your overall point. |

With the guideline of choosing 3 forwards, 2 defenseman and 1 goalie among the current players that comprise the core of the team, here goes…
For example, my Colorado list would be: MacKinnon, Rantanen, Landeskog, Makar, Toews and Kuemper.
Flyers: Couturier, Farabee, Konecny, Provorov, Sanheim and Hart
(Note: I did not include Ellis due to low number of games played.) |

Man, I wish they drafted Makar. Tough to be a GM with a primary focus of building via the draft only to lose the next Bobby Orr out of pure stubbornness.
I just really wish they drafted Makar.. |

Don’t mind that individuals are upset at getting Patrick. To completely bust on a 2nd overall, not to even get a 3rd liner does sting. It most definitely did hurt the franchise.
We will never know just how much they knew about his injuries/head before hand, but with a great need for Giroux’s replacement it wasn’t a very controversial pick.
I will disagree with anyone that says it was the biggest factor in where we are today. The biggest problem was the hiring of Fletcher after Hextall, and continuing to listen to the men who advocated for Chuck’s hiring. |

Was happy, hoped the injuries weren’t a factor, like everyone else. Does it matter that the Flyers internal scouts wanted someone else and Hexy told em to shove it? |

Funny thing is hexy wanted to build via the draft, but he was not a great drafter. However, I’d say his trades were pretty good. Either way he is pits problem now and Makar just one the cup, con smyth and norris. Prob should have won the hart too. 99 calls him the next Bobby Orr. Wish we drafted Makar.. |
