Avs ownership stuck to Sakics vision over the past 10-years, through thick and thin. Thats the real difference between the two franchises.

Flyers just lurch from retool to retool, slapping bandaids on amputated limbs, making so many tragic mistakes along the way.

Hextall was given 5 years. Regardless of what people believe about the Patrick drafting (which everyone had Patrick being taken 1 or 2 except our incredible scouts and Bobby Clarke), Hextall in my opinion is the only GM that at least tried to give the franchise a complete overhaul.

I guess I’m still the only one here who has zero faith in Ghost as a top pair anything.

Provorov is only a -11 for his career is damn good considering all the minutes he plays, who he plays against and the teams he’s played on.

- SuperSchennBros

Ghost is a 3rd pair PP guy at best on a good team. You are right

Is anyone else beyond tired of the Makar - Flyers situation? Obviously anyone would love Makar on their team but our fanbase has had severe tunnel vision with this draft year. Let’s rewind a little.

It’s 2016-17 season. Giroux arguably has his worst season for us still recovering from his core injury. Fans and media all season long voice their concern of Giroux’s future with us as well as his longevity.

As a franchise, we are depleted at center from prospects and to current talent. Our next best Center Sean “3C” Couturier is fresh off an underwhelming 34 point season. We have a clear massive hole and We just spent the last few drafts drafting D men.

We’re expected to draft 14th. I remember (on here and social media) fans were drooling over the pipe dream of somehow winning the lottery to get our biggest need: a big center man who is right handed. Suddenly this pipe dream becomes reality.

I’m sick of our fanbase acting like none of this exists or happened. It truly sucks we don’t have Makar, as well Patrick not even being on this team anymore, but this obsession that majority of our fan base whines and whines and whines daily over is just getting absurd.

- arichardson22

Completely agree. I posted about this yesterday. Everyone would take Makar if they had that draft to do over but the consensus best players were Hischier and Patrick. I remember it like it was yesterday mostly because we won the lottery for once.

I think he still does. And Clarke was trying to take the heat off his boy Fletch by throwing the previous watch under the bus. That commentary was just another black eye for the org IMO.

I really hope Fletch can make the right moves this offseason and moving forward in order to make us relevant again but I do have my worries about the re tool. It's looking like we should have stayed the course that Hextall was on even after he was removed. I hope the change in course turns out to be correct. Get and stay out of cap hell and draft like crazy seems to be a good way to go in today's league.

The Flyers are is much better shape cap wise than a lot of teams. They have about $5M in cap space right now and if they wanted to could free up another $5M. I think the best course of action is to draft really well and develop the young players the Flyers already have in their system, and over time trade out the veteran players at the deadline as their contracts become more manageable. The one big difference with the Flyers compared to teams that have rebuilt successfully like the Rangers, Avalanche and Tampa is the Flyers have not gutted their roster and got really bad in order to draft high for multiple drafts. This greatly decreases the Flyers' chances of getting the top end talent that they need.

As usual, the facts escape you. There are 5 teams in the league that have less cap space than the Flyers currently. The Flyers still have to sign 3 forwards and a defenseman, which will take out of that 5M. It's a 32 team league. Do the simple math. This claim that if they wanted to, they could clear up another 5M is not a fact and currently not a reality. You don't have a clear understanding of the Flyers current cap position.
So in other words, you're advocating for the Hextall plan. Yet you've greenlighted everything Fletcher has done which is the opposite.

Add Frost and Tippetts upcoming deals And that takes approx 2.5 million off that 5 as I am assuming both will come in at around 1.25 aav. Tippett maybe a little more since he is a straight RFA. Frost is only eligible for an offer sheet at best.

JVR may be traded at half retained but I have a hard time believing the Flyers wont have to take something back....if he is traded at all before the deadline.

That cap space is going to be eaten up quickly. Its not as much as you seem to think imo.

Most ironic thing is that Snider finally realized that patience was the missing ingredient all along, but he died before he could ensure that patience ran it's course here.

People who repeatedly claim that Hextall was given 5 years still to this day can't grasp that it took 3 plus years just to clear up the cap situation and rebuild the prospect system. He had to clean up the mess before he could truly start trying to build the team up.

Let's just say that nobody in Denver is cracking on Sakic's 10-year plan right now.

Has anyone else watched the Memorial Cup?
Pretty good hockey, though not as overall disciplined as some previous Memorial Cups....by that I mean adherence to system and excellent passing...some of the officiating has been very "hands off"....

The Flyers do not have to make any panic moves to clear cap space to sign Frost or Tippet. In fact, the Flyers do not even need to sign any free agents to fill out their roster, they have enough young players on entry level deals that can fill any open spots. The Flyers could also trade JVR and Lindblom which would clear about another $6M if they wanted to.

But that is not what they want to do. They want to make a big splash in my opinion.

I will give you this, if they were just acting like a rebuilding team who wanted to stand pat, clear out some cap anchors, and start a patient draft and develop strategy...I would agree, their cap situation is fine. But I don't think that is what they plan to do.

I believe they want to make some big signings, be right up against the cap, and believe they will be contending soon. But IMO the reality is they will just end up being up against the cap and still a bottom half team.

How does this support your incorrect claim that the Flyers are in better cap space than a lot of teams?

The Flyers could trade Konecny, Provorov, Sanheim, Couturier, Atkinson, Laughton and Lindblom. Fill the roster with cheap players and be in great cap position

You live in a fantasy world. The point of stating that the Flyers still had players to sign to fill out their roster was not to say they had to make panic moves. It was was show how most of the remaining 5M they have was basically already accounted for.

The reality is that the Flyers are going to be a capped team while being a mediocre team. That is not a better position than most teams. It is the worst position an NHL team can be in.

Defend until the end Cliff. The rebuilding of the prospect system hasn't yielded much. He was a run of the mill average at best GM. Did very little at the NHL level. Did very little in terms of development. He hurt ivan and Sanheims development.
