Isn't this where you would tell someone "you don't know that".

They hired a college coach and they were rebuilding. But you still need to show progress as in gaining loads of draft capital, players developing, team showing steps that it will eventually get better.

- J35Bacher

Again, they fired Hextall because his process was moving too slow and they wanted to be relevant again. Isn't that direct evidence that the organization would not tolerate a complete tear down and rebuild?

Yeah, nobody is saying Hexy was some great GM.

Only that his tenure was one of the few times this franchise wasn't completely bat poop insane.

- Tomahawk

The bottom line was that the team was in better position for the future when he left than when he got there. He acquired a solid base of young players and positioned the team well under the cap. The obvious hole in his reign is that he did not acquire any elite players.

For me i would explore 2 trades,

JVR (50%) at 3.5mil is a contract that can move.

Hayes(50% retained this year only)to Boston, we retain this year so they can resign Bergy to a 1 year contract. I think Bostons needs match up with what Hayes offers.

- Flyerloon

Boston is not taking on Hayes. You can't just retain for one season on a multi year deal.

100%, and no vision going forward. Sorry but drafting mid 1st round isnt a vision, its a result

more than one obvious hole Cliff. Bottom line is he failed.

Amazing you don't think his job performance and other issues had no bearing on him getting fired.

How would you rate the job he has done in Pitt so far?

Maybe he drops like Coots did on draft day and the Flyers pick him at #5

The entire draft class could be summed up as "not as good as people thought".

I would take Jiricek as my first option and Cutter as my second.

I haven’t seen much of any guy in the top 5 beyond Wright and the Slovakian kid at the olympics. Pretty sure neither falls to # 5 and that may be a good thing. I wasn’t overly impressed with Wright from the hand full of games I watched….nothing to get overly excited about in his game.

So most drafts have us taking Jiricek. Big, mobile, RHD, Top 4 floor with Elite ceiling. Wonder what the over/under on us going off the board and taking the kid from USNDT (Gauthier?) I don’t get the sudden interest is the US hockey these past couple of years. Are the kids actually really good or is there something behind the scenes that’s pushing US hockey?
