I agree except for the wrong side of 30 thing. He's only 30 and turns 31 in December. Don't think that's the wrong side...he's barely on any side of 30.

wrong side of 30 in the context of an expansion team that is compiling assets/picks and has no intentions of being good anytime soon. They definitely need some vets on that team but they can absolutely leverage Gourde's pedigree to pry some quality assets from a contender

It'll cost a good pick, though. So be it. He needs to go.

I can’t talk this Anaheim fan into giving them a second rder if they take both Nemeth and Reaves

I don't think I would want to

I'd take the first and 3rd rounders

Depends on the team. 1st would have to be in the top 15 at a minimum.

You’re out of ur mind. That could end up being pick 31 for a former 2nd overall.

but then you are locked into Kakko on a contract over 4 mil a year for 5 years and it could cost you other guys

you match Kakko, and then what if someone offer sheets K'Andre

If it’s Arizona I think you go for it all day though

A few other bottom dwellers this season could very well take big strides coming up, not many guarantees.

the reality is that he isn't the 2nd overall pick anymore

he's a 3rd year going into 4th year forward who scored 7 goals and was healthy scratched in an elimination playoff game

and we have a potential replacement in Kravtsov who will make 875k this coming season who could be just as productive

I'd certainly prefer if they traded him before an offer sheet happened though and got a better return, absolutely

the Islanders didn't obsess over the fact they used the 4th overall pick on Griffin Reinhart

they traded him for a 1st and 2nd round picks while they still could

I think they’d trade him before the offer sheet window. They’d get more that way. Losing him to an offer sheet is just a terrible thought all around

yep,

my preference is to get a 2 year bridge done with Kakko, like Chytil got last summer, 2.2 mil a year

I hope it happens, but it's getting kinda late for that to happen

Take the picks. It would likely be a bottom feeding team to do so and those picks will be good. Not paying KK over $4M. Imagine what we'd have to pay Miller and Laff if we did.

May even go that third year at $2.5M. He's not worth more. He had 18 points (7G, 11A) in 43 games. Gauthier had 7 points (4G, 3A) in nearly the same amount of games. Gauthier played nothing more than 4th line minutes. I wouldn't pay Gauthier much more than league minimum. At 2.5M, Rangers would be paying Kakko 3x that for slightly more than 2x the production and better 200 foot game.
