I think one of the worst narratives is that the Penguins cant win a Cup because they're too "old" and that's why moving on from Malkin/Letang would be wise. I couldnt disagree more. The Penguins cant win because 1) They've had terrible luck in the playoffs 2) They havent invested in the positions that needed to 3) They have a general lack of depth/talent and too many passengers.
Getting rid of our core solves none of those problems. The focus should be creating the most cap space as possible and filling it with as many impact players as possible, Malkin and Letang included.
The Penguins average age falls very much in line with previous Stanley Cup winners (around 28 years old) and heck, the 2008 Red Wings had an average age of 31.7. |

I think if Jarry wasn’t injured the Pens could have come out of the east this year. But that Colorado team was something else.
Reminded me of the 2016 Cup champs, but not as good as they were. |

Average age is irrelevant. The pens have and will likely once again lack the depth to overcome poor plays, poor calls, and poor luck. They have little to no margin of error. |

They would have obviously beat the Rangers and probably the Canes. Not sure about TB though. |

Friedman reporting another team told him that the Pens and Letang aren’t far apart and there is a path to a deal … for whatever that’s worth - kfinl170
I hope it's true. If they sign Letang soon. Hopefully they can get a solid offer to Malkin as well. |

They should just be the first team to offer Boko Imama a cheap two way deal. Then staple him to the fourth line. Also plan on playing DOC, Zahorna and Bjorkvist the entire year. Say adios to Zucker, McGinn and especially Kappy. |

At least we have Plan B:
The Penguins are very much prioritizing re-signing Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin (in that order) before free agency opens. But in the event that Malkin isn't able to be re-signed, the Penguins' front office has had internal discussions regarding pending unrestricted free agent (and Upper St. Clair native) Vince Trocheck as a possible Plan B. The Red Wings are among the teams expected to make a push for Trocheck in free agency. -- Taylor Haase |

What’s up with this new infatuation with a minor league plug? |

I’m really not excited at the idea of Trochek. Personally, I’d rather try to sign Giroux or find a way to trade for Miller.
I brought him up earlier, but I'd be looking in to the cost of acquiring Dylan Strome. He's had better production as of a late and I showed their WAR cards from Jfresh and they're quite similar, but Strome will likely be a few million less and allow the Pens to spend a lot more on wingers for him. |

Cool name. (frank)s people up. 41 goals in his last year of junior. 1 goal in 4 NHL games. Not boring. |

100% on strome, or possibly trochek if the prices are right so they they can have quality wingers to support.
From what I’ve read and heard from Philly fans ((frank) you guys) Giroux played wing for a reason the last while there. He isn’t what you want for a 2c. So I’d rather not do that. |

Unless Geno (Specifically) and Tanger come in at dollars that help the team add so they can actually compete for a cup then call their bluff and let them walk
Not really interested in a 5 year long farewell tour as a fringe playoff team with a 2nd round ceiling
I'd rather take a step back now than delay the inevitable
It'd be a different story if we had a deep prospect pool and a bunch of ELC kids ready to step up and carry the load |
