How about this...

Fuck Benning and his Shit Show 8 years!

- VanHockeyGuy

Hopefully the new regime gets things under control, where they can actually ask a high quality defenseman like a McDonough to waive his NTC, as the team is loaded with quality players, throughout the lineup.

He can’t or won’t distribute the puck and has been called out by his coach for doing it.
- Shuswap Wap

He had poopty line mates most of the year. At the end of the season when Pouty started playing better they had some pretty good chemistry going I thought.

Meh. Wasn't perfect. Could have been better, could have listened to us and been worse.
- manvanfan

You listed off a bunch of successful franchises, of which Benning’s tenure bears no relation. Other people being bad at their job doesn’t justify Benning being bad at his job. That’s the problem with this industry. They keep hiring the same poopty people over and over and expect things to get better.

You do have a list of excuses. I'm sure you can't be bothered to actually look around and see. Chicago isn't trying to trade Debrincat because they owe him 10M on his QO. Minny wasn't forced to trade Fiala because of their buyouts. Hurricanes and Rangers aren't at all worried about offer sheets for Necas and Kakko. None of these things are possible because they are exclusive to the Canucks. TB hasn't asked Mcdonough to waive his NTC because they have tons of cap space.

Benning was actually running every front office.

Well played sir...well played.

Canucks currently sit in 4th spot on capfriendly's list of highest payroll.
Not bad for a bottom 20 team.

I’d want an additional prospect as well.

I am sure they would be willing to throw in Nathan Schnarr.

Nah. In this draft you’re likely getting almost an equal player at 26 as 15. 33 would be a bonus extra shot. I don’t think there are many sure things in this draft after top 5-6. Better to have a extra chance at a player becoming something.

So what you are saying is Benning is in line with the rest of the industry?

I think moving back 11 spots in the first round is worth more than a second round pick.

Benning is in-line with the successful teams, without achieving any success. Sounds like he did a bang up job

I posted this same trade you proposed about a month ago, after reading Karines blog, where she suggested Montreal moving up and trading those 2 picks.
I like several players that are going to be late 1st/ early 2nd rounders

Not based on past trades of this type.

I would think it would depend on how the draft was unfolding. Most of these guys in this range fluctuate 10 spots or more on different teams lists. Wait and see who is falling and who went off board.

His QO was 7.5M

He signed for 6.65M

- VanHockeyGuy

Apparently the team can take him to arbitration to get that reduced by up to 25%. They 100% would have tried and gotten that QO reduced imo.

For sure. Why was it so high to begin with? This doesn't only apply to Boeser either.

I would think Montreal would want to move up a bit higher than 15th though, if they don't take Wright at 1OA. They badly need a centre that can be on their top 6.
I think they would be targeting Kasper, who, IMO, is a top 10 pick.

Could never figure out why someone signs an RFA to a backloaded contract, understandable for a UFA, not someone who needs a QO.

I believe the rules changed somewhat, in the last set of negotiations, where now the QO is the cap-hit number and not the final year of contract.

They didn't make it retroactive, as the league frowns on retroactivity.
