Provorov is Russian, correct. Hope he didn't go back to visit the mother land. - MJL
MJL, I was thinking the same thing. Wonder how many Russian NHLers did go back this summer and how many will be detained by that tyrant? Hopefully none, but better to use Zoom to talk to mom and dad than to risk getting caught up in that crap show.

Is Jiricek the only top-10 prospect to have ever sustained an injury in their careers? If not, then why is he the only one having an injury (that he's already fully recovered from) held against him? - Tomahawk
I think he's referring to the Flyers' awful luck with drafting injury prone players a la the reference to NP. In that light, it's hard to argue the point.
Putin raised the conscription age to 40. And they can pretty much conscript anyone they want. If the report is true, this issue runs deeper than just one hockey player who was planning to leave the country to play in the NHL.

The reports don’t make it seem like Fedotov was in the process of leaving Russia, not traveling; rather that he was just at a skate facility practicing. Did he get some draft notice and not report?
Why now then and in a public way was he detained? This happening right before the NHL draft also…hummmm.
The problem in Russia sucks. The Flyers can't catch a break.
The Draft is coming up and some people have the Flyers taking Logan Cooley or Jiricek. Jiricek had knee surgery in January. He's a 6'3", 190 lbs at 18 yrs old, so I like his size, but the knee surgery worries me. It reminds me of Sam Morin. I really don't want to waste a #5 draft pick on damaged property, like the Flyers did with the #2 pick of Nolan Patrick. - Thors-Hammer
No way we get Cooley. I wish it was possible but no way he is still on the board at #5, sadly

Your worry is misplaced. Look at his recovery window...it was most likely a meniscus repair or at worst a slight MCL repair.

I think I’m leaning towards hoping they pick up this guy too. If he turns out to be better than Provorov, that’s great! If not, he should be good enough to play with Provorov.
Not just prospects but pros. Imagine if Ovi or Kaprizov etc were drafted? I’m not sure if any of the Russian players went back there this offseason but what would stop the govt from detaining them?? - TurdFergeson
Any Russian player who is dumb enough to go back there deserves what they get.

So far I’ve done through the Lupul, Richards, Simmonds, Pronger and now B.Schenn in the nasty knuckles podcast. The thing most of these guys have in common is how they wanna talk about the fights. Like, most of these guys wanna fight.

I don't think a more idiotic and stupid comment could be made. No innocent person deserves anything. No person deserves anything because they wanted to go home and visit family or for whatever reason they decided to go.

No one "deserves" it. Agreed. But "deserve" has nothing to do with it. Putin is a tyrant and his aims have nothing to do with "deserve' but only to do with his vision of recreating the new version of the old Soviet Union. And going home to visit parents puts them at risk of playing a role in this tyrants demented vision.

Ovi was still back in Russia as of last week....He signed and played 1 game with the Dynamo Football team.
It will be interesting to see if he's allowed to leave back to the US, and on the flip side, if the US will allow him to re-enter the country. There's been multiple issues lately of people being denied entry due to their affiliations, or if they do make it, issues around paying them.
