I haven't seen anyone speculate this but I wonder if they are trading him in part because they want Kane and Toews to be more amenable to leaving. It doesn't make sense to trade him and not the other two. - Slump Buster

Your an idiot
Life isn't about becoming an NHL #1 goalie. He's young an wants to enjoy youth whle getting a degree. How you gunna hate on that - DirtyDan
You're not your.
His life should be about being a #1 goalie right now. It's, by far and away, his quickest and most reliable path to generational wealth for his future family. Anyone telling him different is full of poop. Northeastern University is going nowhere, and their undergraduate degree is not so precious it cant be obtained by Levi at any future date. As if he's worried about cracking books. Lol. |

Those might be your priorities but they aren't his. For all we know him going back to school might better help him be the goalie he envisions himself in the future. I wish it was different but I respect a guy for doing his own thinking rather than chasing the money. I wonder how different Mitts would be if he had stayed in school.

Colorado has two picks in this draft (6th and 7th rounders). Does anyone recall a team having that few picks? That is really astonishing. |

I don't think hes as worried about cracking books as he is enjoying his youth.
The guys has his whole life ahead of him. He and any sane hockey fan knows hes not ready for the NHL. The guy has taken the most untraditional route and is still a top goalie prospect.
Im sure his family is already well enough off....

Why not?
16 for 7 and Murray. Ottawa retains 33%
Murray to Toronto for a 2nd Buffalo retains 33%
Buffalo gets 7 and a second for 16 |

Nothing to worry about with Levi, He'll sign next March/April and isn't an UFA in August anyway, if he doesn't. He chose NU over Rochester. If we draft his roommate and best friend, Hughes, at 28 or 41, that would be even more enticement. Though we didn't talk to Hughes (smokescreen??)
Portillo is the one to worry about as he can me an UFA next August, but, Portillo is close to the swedes on our team, mostly Dahlin, so that may help |

Mitts problems are injury based.
Also, to me Levi has a unique opportunity as the best goalie in the entire Buffalo Sabre system to start his NHL career early. I don't even understand the mindset of someone who worked hard enough to get to where he is to slam the breaks and say I'd rather not be in the show.
No worries about him becomming the next Pat Roy.

No. The beginning of his NHL career he was a child in a young mans body.
If hes(Levi) not ready why would he even try? Could ruin the work hes put in up to this point. If you really think he isn't working his tale off while still trying to enjoy his 20's, you clearly haven't read up on the kid. |

Portillo is gone. If he's smart enough to want to finish a Masters degree as the story goes, he's smart enough to know he'll be 1 month from FA at that point. The Buffalo Sabres have a 0% of seeing him play as a Sabre his rookie season. |

Wasn't even a shot at his (questionable) character. He's just not that great.
7 years in the NHL, less than a PPG, injured for parts of 4/7 seasons. Scored 30 goals once. Career 44% on faceoffs. -69 for his career.
He never turned out to be what he was pumped up to be at the draft, which was not just a star, but a superstar.
