Yeah it’s not like they just tried to ditch a 6 1/2 million dollar goaltender.

We've beaten this to death over the last few weeks. The future is extremely bright and it isn't worth trying to convince everyone of this.

Interesting…no discussion on extension between Ottawa and Debrincat prior to the trade. After next season Debrincat is 1 year away from UFA status. Safe to assume this will impact term and $ on an extension moving forward.

at that price to get him

they can probably get almost as much back as a rental trade in 20 months

they literally paid almost nothing to get the cat for 130 games

congrats to the sens

It was just reported that they had not talked at all. They are going to pay him over 9 mill a year.
- Slump Buster

If they're lucky. He's got the option to walk to UFA and go where he wants.

There is no way that we could have two 9 million dollar wingers before we've signed any of the other guys coming up. That's just bad management. We are flush with assets and about to add a ton more. The fastest way to screw this up is to start giving out huge contracts.

I dunno, a 24 (26 when he is a UFA) year old 40 goal scorer is worth $9 million for the next 6-7 years.

Well no.

They paid below market value (or looking back at what Sam and Buch got, almost seems right inline tbh) for a very good winger.

Yup, and it didn't work out. But now it looks like it is. Either way, I don't get the desire to continually come here to remind everyone what the last 10 years looked like. We all know and we all suffered.

I think fans just want management to show them something indicative of taking a step forward. Doesn't have to debrincat but, it's very deflating to have two weeks of buffalo news articles about how lucky we are to have Braden Holtby sign a 1 year 5 million dollar deal.

It's a good move for them for sure whether they keep him or trade him at the deadline.

I would have liked KA to get in on that, but without having a true #1 center, and not knowing how much certain players are going to cost them long term I can see why he isn't a Sabre

if and when you get DeBrincat, you then worry about the skinner contract 2 years from now when you are up against the cap

we have a 2 year window to spend, spend, spend

and we go after matt murray

Fair enough, but are we more concerned with a token message or are we more concerned with the team actually having a championship window opening for a good long time in the not-too-distant future?

And again, we haven't even hit free agency yet and we are still months away from the season starting.

On the open market, in 2 years, I'd say more.

Ottawa might be looking at 8x10m to try to keep him.

I think it's fair and 1000% reasonable to be excited about our prospects but fed up with mediocrity and losing. Losing culture breeds bitter prospects who want to leave when they hit their prime. It happened with the Bills in the 00s and it's happening now with the Sabres. Guys like Cozens, Dahlin etc who keep saying how happy they are to be here will be singing a different tune if we continue to miss the playoffs. The best teams are the ones who still try to win without being stupid... We can't seem to find the try to win part.

KA is in the first full off-season of a rebuild getting rid of Eichel, Risto and Sam. It’s not his fault Botts and Murray were incompetent and failed miserably at a rebuild the first time. He has a plan and seems to be sticking to it, unlike the other two who had no direction on what they were doing.

Beane and McDermott didn’t rush a rebuild just because the Bills previous GMs sucked too. We trusted the process for them and look at us now, Vegas super bowl favorites.

Hockey takes a little more time. Could be eating my words tonight if he bungles his picks but I have loved what he has been doing over the last few years.

Those of you that are upset and want to rush, you can have your opinion, but it is wrong

not sure why people are pissed, the Sabres aren't paying the CAT 9mill or more a year. The money will go to our players before FA.
