I would take that in a heart beat. If we get a great year but he decides he does not want to sign and we get a top 15 in return...good on us.
No more rebuild. Time to go for it! - spatso
your an idiot pure and simple, paying 7th OA, 39th OA and a 3rd for 1-1.5 years of a guy is pure stupidity, proly just as bad as the murray to Buff trade |

Well that's certainly a major acquisition... just the magnitude of the player involved is notable. It's hard not to be pleased to see high-end talent added, and the natural RW is on the money. Hopefully guys like Tkachuk & Norris are an enabling factor in terms of enticing him to be more than a short-term addition. It will be interesting to see if they see him as a better fit on the Tkachuk/Norris line (esp. given his lack of size/physical play), or playing as the primary goal-scoring target for Stutzle.
The negatives...
- his current deal only "guarantees" 2 years of his service
- despite the $6.4M AAV, he's owed $9M in actual salary this year, which is where the QO would land for the next deal... though it doesn't mean he couldn't be signed to a more reasonable extension
All-in-all, it's great to see them take a legitimate step towards actually winning more games next season... provided DJ doesn't start to play him with Gambrell & Watson.

Cool. DeBrincat is solid, pure goalscoring talent. He's put up his numbers with much inferior linemates to Fiala, and he's cost controlled for one more year. It will be interesting to see how he fits into the lines. I still think Giroux makes sense as a faceoff mentor for 2-3 years, which would make our 3rd line Formenton-Pinto-Brown. If you believe in Joseph as 3RW and can cost control him a few years sub 3, maybe Brown moves in the next week. It'd be sadly fitting if he was the piece used to offload the Zaitsev contract. - Bartacus
Do you put him with Stutzle? I don't know much about him to be honest. He's smaller, but as a goal scorer you'd think he may gell more with Stuzle as opposed to Norris. |

Cost less than I anticipated.
I was sure one of Greig or Thomson would be going back as well.
Curious to see how the year plays out. Does this make the team good enough to compete for a playoff spot? - david22
The guys on Overdrive on TSN TV right now are saying while PD was fleecing Chicago, they should've have got Connor Murphy in the deal and added Thomson or JBD! 29 years old, RD at 4.4M for 4 more years.....but has a NTC

Um, look and see who he played the most minutes with last year. I don't think playing the most minutes with a future hall of famer is inferior to what Fiala played with. I think he's going to struggle without Kane. For the Senators, I hope I'm wrong |

Zaitsev + Brown is $8.1m on the cap. Still lots of great prospects in Sens system. Sens have their #1 pick from next year. Is Chycuran an impossible option?

Sorry. But I think I reflect the majority of the fan base.
And Murray was never traded to Buffalo. |

I just noticed that Debrincat has $9M in actual dollars remaining for this year. So the Sens will pay him $9M this year and sign him for $9M next year. Did anyone tell Dorion? |

Put him in Belleville for the entire season next year. - spatso
That salary stays the same and one can say 6 million goes further in Belleville then it would in Ottawa. |

Hard to say! If you sign Giroux you've got three out of six top 6 players as primarily puck movers. DeBrincat and Norris are goal threats, and Brady plays the boards. Stutzle is great positionally at C but he's one of the worst faceoff takers in the league, which makes you want to get a Giroux-type in there to take draws and then play RW positionally in game while mentoring the dot with Stu in practice. The other option is letting Brady take the faceoffs as he's much better than Stutzle, but that breaks up the effective Borrischuk line. All of this puts Deb on left wing on the '1B' line (though I'd call that the 1A), IE Debrincat-Stu-Giroux behind Tkachuk-Norris-Bathtime. I think Tkachuk and Norris like to play together and doubt that changes, and Batherson is an excellent playmaker that compliments their game. It seems at times like management really likes to cater to Brady's wishes in general, so perhaps it is pie in the sky, but I hope we see some blender action to find the best mix. It may turn out that folding in the third line to the top 6 will create more balance and parity. The key is to experiment and find what gels best, rather than fall into conservative patterns. |

I noticed that. It is not insignificant. Somebody has authorized Dorion to spend money. Would love to know who has given the authority.

Murray is going to be moved. Probably to Buffalo. But, he is taking this moment to hold his breath and tell everybody he is unhappy. Best way of dealing with it is to ignore him.

I said this on page 1 of the comments and in my blog.....you think anyone is going to make more than brady or chabot?! - Kevin Francis
In fairness Kevin, if the kid puts up 100 points and is 10-20 ahead of Brady, I think they'll understand the salary.differential. It's more a question if the Board and creditors will let it be paid - assets making 9+M a year don't really move, ever, so if you arb him and he walks to UFA, you better ensure you have an open slot for salary retention available for that trade deadline so you can sell him at 4.5. One of those slots is already Colin Whited, so basically this move means we can't be buying anybody else out in the next two years. I am hoping we see a long term extension in the 7-8 range in the coming weeks, it would squash s lot of this speculation. |

I understand the worry. If he puts up the goals again, they will resign.imo a low cost 2 years tryout to see if he can.
If they get a solid top 4 shut down D, they should make the playoffs.
Overall i give it a nice seal of a trade approval |

Not the guy I wanted, but not a disaster either. Still have to:
- Sign DeBrincat
- Move Zaitsev
- Bring in Top 4 D
It's alot harder to find a free agent defencemen than a forward. I really wish they used the 7th to shore up the D. - CooCooKaChoo

If he is gone in 1-2 years when you could have signed Giroux for no assets......man oh man....
