What if he doesn’t sign an extension and is gone next year? - neem55
I guess they trade him as an RFA. |

Two birds, one stone: Zaitsev for Rasmus Ristolainen - Tomahawk
Oof. That RR contract is a tough pill to swallow. I'd rather they give some of that money to a Zub extension and let Thomson have a shot. |

If he is gone in 1-2 years when you could have signed Giroux for no assets......man oh man.... - Kevin Francis
Debrincat is 24 though. It’s a great move if you can convince him to sign a 3-4 year extension. Not a bad gamble. |

Players want to win. If Sens have a good year, players buy into the team and will want to be here. So team will do its best to negotiate a fair contract. If they can't get a contract done, they do their best to move the player for the best return (this is the situation Calgary is in today with Matthew Tkachuk).
If the player is not a good fit you are happy to see him go after two yers.

Biggest thing to me is that the roster is better at tonight than it was this morning. The picks are meh in a meh draft. Obviously Debrincat was a 2nd rounder himself but he is a great winger that can play now and can score.
The money issues can't be ignored in Ottawa but who knows, maybe a page is turning. We've had good arena news, Alfie got into the Hall, and now have acquired a legitimate winger.
Let's be real, if the Sens are going to be successful, it needs to be in the next few years and should start now. There is still a lot of work to do but I can't help be see this move as a single entity, a positive move. |

your an idiot pure and simple, paying 7th OA, 39th OA and a 3rd for 1-1.5 years of a guy is pure stupidity, proly just as bad as the murray to Buff trade - Mithos
At the end of the day, you have to make your team a place where good players are going to want to play, even if they're not locked down on a >6yr contract. Regardless of what you think of DeBrincat, I'll give Dorion credit for setting a new bar for the on-ice expectations... they've got 1.5yrs to prove to a guy like DeBrincat that he's got a chance to win in Ottawa, and wants to be a big part of the team going forward. This is also the kind of move that could incent quality UFA, by putting money where the mouth is regarding a serious playoff run. If it eventually does help to attract a player like Giroux or maybe a top-4 D-man, it will be hard to view it in such a negative light. |

Sens better not Nucks out by taking that boat anchor Myers without Vancouver having to cough up serious compensation... Myers sucks .. |

Worst case is arbitration 2023/24 sign him ,then trade by deadline for likely a 1st rounder +
Best case puts up big numbers and lock him in at 9 or less
Either way not much to worry about and the only real cost was this years 7. And that they can easily afford this year.

"The Canucks are looking to shed dollars on their payroll for JT Miller. Ottawa would most likely have to include a 1st round pick in 2023 plus a defensive prospect I'm told"
This kind of logic worries me. It factored into the the Zaitsev trade where we sent a 3rd round sweetener to get Brown: Canucks need to shed salary to sign somebody. That's called doing them a favour. I'd give them JBD alone, zero picks for a 32 year old middling defender. "Would HAVE to include a first rounder"? Benning is high. Gimme a break. |

Interesting. The first thing I thought of when I heard that Duclair was going to be out most of the season was, perhaps the Panthers might be calling about Joseph, Formenton and some other speed players in the Ottawa system. Connor Brown? |

PD just did something many of you have been moaning for him to do for a season or two. The Sens just acquired a 25 year old, pure skill, 40G RW in his prime under contract and own his RFA rights.
It is painfully apparent that there are people on here will never be happy with anything PD does as the Sens GM. It is sad to see individuals a fan base that put their dislike of PD ahead of anything else. |

Myers is just as bad as Zeitsev.... - Mithos
Holy good God, if Dorion sends a 1st round pick to Vancouver for Myers, he will have quickly undone what is the most positive trade he's made in a very long time. There's simply NO WAY that Tyler Myers at age 32 is worth a 1st round pick from any NHL team, let alone a team who's yet to make it out of the bottom-10 in the league in half a decade. Who on EARTH is setting that kind of value expectation, the same guy who thought Hamonic was worth a 3rd? That guy needs to go.
Dorion: you did good, now just go have a couple beers at Bare Fax, and chill for the rest of the day. Don't get all worked up and let the "big-body" voices in your head take over again.

They need to leap frog one of the 8 from this year to get in. I do think there is a window there as some teams are getting older, have injuries.
