Would be nice to keep Varly but moving his salary would be a plus. Wish the Isles had a young cheap goalie ready to be backup. - ses111
At this point I think moving Varly nets us some sort of valuable asset. Maybe nothing mind-blowing but it might get us a couple of 2nd rounders or something. Or a first next year, which would be excellent. |

Devils traded for Vanacek
Every goalie that comes off the board makes me a little more antsy to trade Varly, despite my previous thoughts on it. I don't know if Toronto or Edmonton can afford Kuemper/Campbell - eichiefs9
The Oilers can. Keith is almost certainly gonna retire, and Kassian is gone. They have the funds. |

It would amaze me if Johnny signed with Torts and Philly. I do not care if he had Flyer PJ's.

They have $10.33M in cap space and only 7 forwards signed though |

If it means we get a legit top line forward I would do it. Rather hold onto him of course but the need for a real first line forward outweighs his need imo. |

He had a mediocre playoffs and a great regular season. I know lameriello wouldn’t touch him with a ten foot pole but I would be all over this. |

Purely guessing here, but if they were going to trade him it'd have to be because they knew that they had a real shot at landing a Gaudreau/Forsberg type of player.
Things I'm still wondering about:
- Giroux (although I have extreme doubts he'll sign in the Metro)
- What's going on with Malkin
- If Lou would consider getting real weird and signing someone like Kadri and moving Barzal to wing
- I still think Ilya Mikheyev would be a very good add that wouldn't break the bank |

RH shot though. So unless he could've played the left side or one of Pulock/Dobson/Mayfield was willing to move then there wasn't a huge fit. But I'm with you, shi tty attitude and all...I'd have signed him. |

Sounds like DeAngelo’s new contract with #Flyers is in the neighborhood of 2 years x $5 million. Waiting on final details. |

That is true, but Kane sounds like he’s opting out, and Barrie will almost certainly be moved. And the Oilers have a few RFA forwards that won’t be too expensive to sign.
On top of that, the organization seems to feel that a starter in the number one priority. |

Not big on Giroux. I would LOVE to sign Gaudreau but I think Calgary finds a way to sign him. I also would think for as much as I’d hate to see him go there Toronto would pay a pretty substantial price for Varlamov. |

He literally checks every box we need in a defender. |

I think Gaudreau sticks around CGY as well. It'd be too difficult for him to get the same $76M (allegedly) from another team that he'd get from Calgary. Same with Forsberg, unfortunately. My guess is neither makes it to next Wednesday unless things really fall apart. |

He's a complete and total defensive liability though. He's as likely to contribute to a goal-against as he is to his team scoring one. |

Yes but I can't imagine Toronto would even entertain that idea for one year of Varly. I think we'd have to add a ton to make that one happen |

Yes 100%. With that said after that trade there better be another one to add something else significant to the top 6 because I don’t think nylander fixes our ails there. It would be a lot of dumping of salary to make it happen. |

One of my takeaways from night one of the draft regarding Anthony Beauvillier:
The gesture to bring one of your players to meet draftees as a welcoming committee hardly screams "we're trading this player." I guess we’ll see. #isles

It wouldn’t be a one for one, no.
He’s gonna have to be dealt eventually. Matthews is gonna eat up his salary on his next deal. |
