No one has said anything about my proposition of playing LAF at center between Panarin and Kane. It could definitely work. - aecliptic
Excellent proposition. Only problem is Kane isnt a Ranger. |

I only say that cause it keeps getting brought up that we would still not have a center if we got Kane, and Im saying, just put LAF between them. Im sure it will work out beautifully. |

Here's one to consider:
Toronto gets: Lindgren, Nils, Cuyelle and 2023 1st round pick
Rangers get: William Nylander w/ 50% retained.
Toronto gets a top 4 defensive d-man, prospects and some small cap relief.
Rangers get their 2nd line center for next 2 seasons at a reasonable number and only costs us one current roster player.
You guys doing this??? |

I’m with ya if he wants to much we pass. They would get that part out the way quickly. Handshake. Hey listen we need an answer on next season and beyond before we make you a NYR.
You’re making it complicated there is a lot of factors in the rangers favor with him. One being we have his favorite linemate ever. That’s a thing - Slimtj100

No one is paying a guy 50% to not play for them. Those deals happen at the deadline on an expiring contract. |

That's one thing I was always unclear on. Does the team retain actual salary or just the cap hit? |

I’m not sure how adding a 90 pt player is a mistake
They don’t even want players, they want picks |

No one has given them a top 4 defenseman on a cheap contract in the several years they've been attempting to add one to their roster. |

He is a natural center, Toronto only moved him to wing when they got Tavares. |

Is it cheap though if they’re paying 50% of Nylander’s salary? |

IF the Rangers were to bring Kane, it would not be Laf to center between him and Bread. Laf is just starting to learn how to get up and down the ice on his wing, doesn’t have the skating skills to play the center position. Now, Chytil does have the skating ability to play center, but it ends there. He would have no idea what to do with players of that ilk. Kane and Panarin would not need a all star to center the line, someone with quickness who is responsible defensively would fit fine. A Vincent Trochek type. |

We were worried about fitting a $5 million 2C and now all of a sudden we’re getting another winger with a $10.5 cap hit and still don’t have another center. Do u guys realize how ridiculous this all is? |

It is. And as been pointed out, the Hawks would need to retain 50% of Kane’s deal. |

I’m curious, when was the last time a team retained over $5 million in a trade? |

It is. But it doesn’t mean it can’t happen tho
They may actually NEED the cap hit. They are literally selling everyone. They have to maintain the cap floor. In this case and this trade, Chicago need a portion of the cap hit. So it’s not a bad part of the deal. They wanna lose games, I’m not sure if you’re aware of that |

They’re are tanking, what good would it do them to not keep money if it helps their future by doing it? Use ya head man
The retain is the easiest part of the trade let it go. The pieces is where we can debate
I just did a CF where we get Strome at the 3.6 and Kane at the 5.2. So Strome centers Panarin and Kane
We also signed Brendan Smith and Greiss |

If we found a Vincent Trocheck type player at a Cap hit of lets say 3.5 because we arent going to find a second line center cheaper, you still have to add in a back up goalie and another Defense man. |

Matt Robertson would be 800k, a backup goalie around 1.2, that’s 2 mil. I think that works. |

Im gonna take it back to Paul Statsny. Hes a center and a veteran. We could sign him for 1 year for like 3m. He would be just fine playing between Panarin and Kane.
The hardest part about signing anyone to a long term deal this year is that we have to resign LAF, Chytil and KAndre next year. Its probably why the team is having a hard time resigning Copp because the Rangers probably already have a gauge of how much it would cost to resign LAF, Chytil and KAndre and want to make sure they dont leave themselves without any space. The the only thing that makes sense this year is to bring in players/rentals on expiring contracts this way we dont have anything hanging over our heads next offseason. |

Aside from and nothing to do with Kane, trading for D Strome seems like a no brainer. He’s worth 3.6 for 2 years on a bridge deal. It’s not gonna cost anything because they’re letting him walk for nothing. Give them a late pick |

I bet you could probably sign Comrie for like 975k. Robertson is 800k. Othmann (900k) and Cuylle (830k) could fill a void as well. Cuylle might earn himself a spot this year, I remember last years camp he was one of the final cuts because the Rangers didnt have the option of sending him to the AHL. |
