Yes and that move only came because he switched positions. And Bill is already saying he thinks he’ll make a better winger than center lol. It’s a reach. - hereticpride
Hockeybuzz: I wish the Flyers would swing for a high risk/high reward type for once
Flyers take Cutter Gauthier
Hockeybuzz: Stupid. Such a reach if he doesn't reach his potential or can't play center.

So taking on a player another team needs to move out and getting a high level asset to do so. That's what a bad team should do to get better. Man, I wish we had Chicago's management. They'll be in the Cup picture before the Flyers are. - MJL
Yeah the deal really made good sense both ways. Chicago is definitely tearing it down.

Exactly....That Kassian move was costly. Imagine the the cost to move JVR? The Flyers will have no picks left if they try to do that - Flyerfan2868
They can move JVR withot adding picks. The only way I would see picks involved is if your moving the whole 7 million.
They can retain money. JVR at say 3.5-4 million cap hit can be moved. |

While playing junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League, DeAngelo was twice suspended for violating the league’s harassment, abuse and diversity policy — at least once after using an unspecified slur against a teammate. And he was suspended once in juniors and again with the Arizona Coyotes for abuse of an official.
https://www.lohud.com/sto...ix-month-saga/8064117002/
Rangers bought him out after playing 6 games on a 2 year contract extension. How long do the Flyers have him signed for? That's still 2 more games than we got out of Ellis's 6 year deal.
Suspended for abuse of official .. etc.
Anyone defending this idiot's past antics has an agenda. There's nothing accidental, he's not misunderstood, he likes to troll people, he's just an ass. If he was just an average player he his NHL career would be long over.
While the Flyers/Comcast preach character, the truth is as long as the production on the ice outweighs the baggage off the ice they, like a few other teams, will hold their nose.
In a vacuum, just looking at numbers and age, he's a good add but it's not a vacuum and he's just under 2 years from getting kicked off the rangers and them eating his contract rather than have him play one more minute with them.
Also keep in mind, the atmosphere in Philly is a bit different than Carolina. - Flyers_01
I read through the links and did not see his racist comments, only about his twitter antics. I am not defending him, i just need to see the racist comments.
I could care less what he says on twitter, i am not on it and never will be. Can someone please post the horrible comments he has made in the past few years?
If they are bad then I will condemn him, but if they were all from juniors then I shrug my shoulders. I don't think Brindy would have had him on the team if he was such a bad person.

Doesn't beat pissing away picks to MAKE bad signings, does it? - CF - Tomahawk
It’s not smart trading these picks for deangelo. It’s a fine pickup but exactly what I didn’t want to see. We need to be stockpiling. If they eventually do sign jg, they’ll need more space and more assets will be flying out the door |

All the mocks are wrong i guess. I dont know enough on the prospects, only what i read. To me it wasn't a reach at all, Nazar at 5 would've been a reach though

Hah! Always the way with Flyers fans. It's not just hockeybuzz. I admit I wasn't a fan of the pick, but just read this comment from Gauthier and it gives me hope. Count me as one of those who believes the lack of effective player leadership, Giroux included, has been part of the problem. Good to see Cutter recognizing the value of leadership. He may or may not turn out to be a star, but if he can also add some of that sorely needed leadership I can buy into the pick:
Gauthier (6-foot-2, 189 pounds), No. 3 in NHL Central Scouting's final ranking of North American skaters eligible for the 2022 draft, has certainly opened some eyes this season with his strong play. He likens his style to a pair of NHL power forwards with the Winnipeg Jets.
"I like to model my game after Mark Scheifele and Pierre-Luc Dubois," Gauthier said. "Two big, bull power forwards with lots of skill who can change the game at any time. I also like to emulate Mark's leadership qualities." |

Cant wait to see the cap gymnastics coming up. DeAngelo takes up what is left of our current cap with Frost and Allison still to sign.
They must know Ellis wont play.
They really have to move out a LOT of salary to fit Gaudreau. Hard to do that without taking some salary back or losing high picks. I am not optimistic.

Therien posted that when he’s interacted with him, and watched him Coach youth, he’s been good. I’m also for second chances as long as he’s learned his lessons. The picks out the door is what bugs me

Obviously the conservative comment is idiotic and should be ignored.
The move in and of itself is not an awful move in a vacuum. However it's a continuation of a failed strategy to continually try and trade and sign your way to the top. Putting the team on a path of being a team that can compete for the playoffs but is no where near the top of the league. With no realistic path to the Cup. Putting the team in the worst position a team can be in. Capped out and not good enough. They don't understand how to build a team with continuity in the lineup through the draft. They don't understand how as a lower team, how to use cap space as a weapon against other teams. They continually bail out other teams. - MJL
This is an excellent take. Amazing how bad they can be and still be in cap trouble year after year. You'd think they'd figure this out by now. But, I think it's because they're owned by Comcast and the only really important thing to them is filling the building and selling beers for $12 and hot dogs for $8. |

How much space does a jvr buyout buy us? I’m thinking Ellis on ltir for the year and someone takes jvr.

Dave Scott, who knows nothing about hockey, is the leader of this franchise. So where is he getting the idea that the Flyers are two players away from being right back in it? Does he have voices inside of his head? |

So a 2nd, 3rd, 4th for DeAngelo? Then he signs a 2 year deal? Did I miss the rest of the aggressive retool moves with all the GMs in the same building? Are we waiting for more announcements? Do we have any e4 murmurs of a huge (read “aggressive”) move by the Flyers? |

Flyers are totally complacent with decades of mediocrity because they’re afraid of being terrible once or twice every 10 years. You know, the way every other team operates. |
