Flyers gonna Flyer.

I'm sure we're all wondering why we keep doing this to ourselves lol.

- Tomahawk

I love the team but it’s clear they should have kept on the stockpile picks and clear cap space path as they weren’t in go time yet in 2020 although we thought they might be.

Cant wait to see the cap gymnastics coming up. DeAngelo takes up what is left of our current cap with Frost and Allison still to sign.

They must know Ellis wont play.

They really have to move out a LOT of salary to fit Gaudreau. Hard to do that without taking some salary back or losing high picks. I am not optimistic.

- MBFlyerfan

They’re out on JG. DeAngelo is the consolation prize for the meatheads that get lubed up over having a local kid.

Flyers are totally complacent with decades of mediocrity because they’re afraid of being terrible once or twice every 10 years. You know, the way every other team operates.
- hereticpride

Sometimes it seems you need to be terrible for 5 to 10 years in hopes of getting that generational talent. Look at the leafs and oilers. That was basically what it took.

So how is D’Angelo on defense? Do we now have 10 million tied up in two players who can’t play defense?
- StepfordSam

Not good at all. Like one of the worst in the league in EVD WAR last season. Not quite Yandle bad, but still very bad.

Add to that he's been benched multiple times in the past for being lazy on defense, and he and Torts could be fireworks.

Therien posted that when he’s interacted with him, and watched him Coach youth, he’s been good. I’m also for second chances as long as he’s learned his lessons. The picks out the door is what bugs me
- Hextall271

Totally agree on all points. I thought the price was high, i never like giving up a draft pick in the first 2 rounds. But he is young and in his prime and was a solid D guy last season. Chucky was also up against the wall because of Ellis.

Ed SNider knew it too. When they hired hextall and then moved him to GM he was ready to be patient. BUt he also said if you have Giroux, Voracek, SImmonds, COuturier then you need to figure out what to do with the on ice product. I posted the article. If he wanted to tear it down I think he had the backing.

But if he was keeping those players then he needed to figure out how to win. That was the chance for a full rebuild.

As Tomahawk said...defense is not his strong suit and in some instances seems not to be his concern. We basically now have a $5MM 3rd pair player on the books for 2 years. Making the entire RHD side +$5MM per. that is plain nuts!

Maybe Ellis starts the year on LTIR...maybe his compounded labrum and core stress injuries take awhile. Without a doctor's report t's hard to exactly tell what they are but it's not uncommon for a player compensating for a structural deficiency in one are to cause the biomechanics of supporting areas and limbs to assume unnatural movement and stress those areas. What we do know is if Ellis does play then we have an untenable expense at RHD.

You don’t reach at 5 lol. You take BPA. Thats the benefit of having a high draft pick lol
- hereticpride

I think it's safe to assume that the Flyers took BPA

This thought that they can't rebuild today is such nonsense.

The Hawks signed Jones to a crazy contract last season, and look at them now.

The only thing preventing a preventing a rebuild is the ego of certain men in this franchise. Know what not smart asset management is? Trading away picks like candy when you just finished near the bottom of league standings.

Just think about the assets spent to acquire Ristolainen, and TDA.

Think about the assets spent to move Ghost.

This is the worst management team in the league.

I read through the links and did not see his racist comments, only about his twitter antics. I am not defending him, i just need to see the racist comments.

I could care less what he says on twitter, i am not on it and never will be. Can someone please post the horrible comments he has made in the past few years?

If they are bad then I will condemn him, but if they were all from juniors then I shrug my shoulders. I don't think Brindy would have had him on the team if he was such a bad person.

- WhiskeyMan

You can google, there's plenty of articles, but the slurs do seem to be from his junior days. You can't google his name without getting enough articles to a tabloid mag to shame. Let's also not act like it's just the slurs.

The Canes took a flyer on a distressed asset, polished it up a bit, and found a sucker in the Flyers. They were never going to give him the contract the Flyers did.

Is it possible D'Angelo was brought in to fix the locker room issues? My research is telling me that he should be in the running for the Lady Byng trophy this year.

They can move JVR withot adding picks. The only way I would see picks involved is if your moving the whole 7 million.

They can retain money. JVR at say 3.5-4 million cap hit can be moved.

- J35Bacher

In an ideal world, I agree. Maybe more if they held him to the deadline...but dealing him now, given their position of being the team looking for cap relief, I just don't see any other team willingly doing the Flyers that type of favor, without added incentive and squeezing Fletcher for draft picks.

Well he’s so bad at d then he’s marginally better than yandle. He’ll have to play sheltered 3rd pair minutes and hope he can be dynamite on the pp. this squad is also not Carolina. We’re coming off a season with a terrible pp 2 which can’t be fixed by 1 player Imo

Can you say you never did or said anything in your youth that would be considered not PC or sexist or racist in any way, not in the slightest?
