Back to the argument of overvaluing draft picks. Same old same old.

Is it possible Tony D also complimented Slavin to form a very good pair?

- hello it's me 2050

He didn't.

Slavin was much better playing away from Tony than he was with him.

None of it makes any sense unless you're Chuck Fletcher.

About as much as the voice text on my phone. Woof! Sorry guys!

With their final pick, Flyers select the son of a Flyers scout.

Yikes, you're right.

(is that the pick that Carolina just gave us, lol?)

As MJL said earlier, guy is a fine upgrade on Yandle.

A replacement for Ellis he is not.

- Tomahawk

There are not many defenseman in the league that can replace Ellis, but this at least gives the Flyers a credible top pairing with Provorov, assuming Provorov is not moved. DeAngelo improved his defensive play last year, and there is no reason to think he will not be as good under Torts.

It's also fascinating to see the disconnect between bringing in a person like DeAngelo and comments from new Flyers head coach John Tortorella, who just days ago had this to say about the Philly locker room:

"I can sense that the locker room's a bit splintered, it's not together. That's my No. 1 goal right now. We can't do anything right on the ice unless we're together in that locker room, and that's a very important part of the first piece of work I need to do, is to get everybody to believe that we're together."

So your new head coach thinks the locker room needs more stability, unity, and leadership... and you go get a guy who's been disruptive and problematic basically every step of the way during his time as a hockey player?

The problem is, why are we looking for an upgrade for Keith Yandle? We go from Niskanen, to Ellis to what? Why isn’t a reliable partner for Provorov a priority? If you’re willing to drop assets like that as if you have the biggest balls at the poker table, why not move up a spot or two in the draft when we just saw Wright skip? I understand wanting to get better but get better smart. Get better where it makes sense. We’re everything our first season without Giroux? Why not try to replace him, even in the short term for this “retool”?
- SuperSchennBros

The reason we now have the Ellis fiasco is because we had to find a shoulder for Provy to lean on.

Heres a thought, maybe we move away from Provy so we no longer have to find someone to play with him?

They like D’Angelo cause he can run a pp and move the puck. I agree they mangled the D improvement project last year, but that should not prevent them from trying to improve this year.

He put up back to back 50 pt years playing 60 some games each year. What am I missing?

Yes, I know he is or was nuts..

He did play number 1 dman minutes at times last year. Not saying he is Pronger on d, but you still have to have a pp that is at least decent.

Lastly the pp sucked w ghost, jake, g and provy on it. New faces can’t be a bad thing

Lol...one of Chuck's guys...he was a scour in Minny for years before coming to Philadelphia.

That's the 2nd family/familiar tie for draft selections this year. The first being Cutter...where Chuck was the GM of his father Sean down in Louisville.

Dangelo is not a 1st pair guy by any means. He is a 3rd pair offensive zone start guy. Braun was a better 1st pair dman than Dangelo. Keep in mind the team Dangelo played with last year was a strong defensive team who could cover his mistakes. At least he is fun to watch.

The deal itself is fine.

You and others need to realize there is no rebuild coming. They are "trying" to win. Look at this move in that context only.

- hello it's me 2050

Trying to win lol. If they’re trying to do that with this roster we should all just tune out completely.

Your ignorance is astounding. You don't know how LTIR works. So again, I will attempt to educate you. The salary cap has been around for only 17 years.

A player placed on LTIR is not removed from the cap. A player placed on LTIR counts the same against the cap as any other player does. You claimed that the Flyers won't be capped out and gained 1.25M. LOL.

Here is what LTIR is. LTIR is an exemption to spend over the upper limit, here is the key part. IF replacing the player puts a team over the upper limit. By definition, a team using LTIR is over the upper limit and capped out.

Adding on DeAngelo at 5m leaves the Flyers at about 100K below the upper limit with Frost and Tippet still to be signed. They can use the LTIR cap space to sign them and be cap compliant. They will be over the upper limit and into LTIR and capped out!

Sure you did. This is taking a stance against the move or in support of it?

"Fletcher just got a player that had 51 points and a +30 in only 64 games last season and is only 26 years old, and he got him without giving up any 1st round picks. But only on this forum could we make these ridiculous statements that Fletcher is the worst GM of all time."

T

- MJL

You're just playing a semantics game now. All I care about is when the season starts, the Flyers will be cap compliant. Teams that are capped out are by definition NOT cap compliant. You are focusing on the wrong thing!

And there is a difference between liking the move and going to the extreme of saying Fletcher is the worst GM in the league. It was to this point that my post was directed. I would liked Fletcher to go in a different direction this off season and stated that several times already, but I understand why he made this move, that is all I am saying. Again, IMO this move does not happen if Ellis is healthy or going to be healthy. IMO I would not be surprised if Ellis's career is over.

I’d love to see Torts walk out on the front office like he did Vancouver. Maybe that will finally be the wake up call.

So what will you think when the Flyers jettison JVR and bring in JG? Are you going to tune out? I think we need to see the off season in its entirety before we make these kind of judgements.

It is funny as hell I agree. Also misguided.

However the fact is that is the goal. So you need to judge the moves form that lens imo.

On this page a little further down, I really do think Shane Wright death-stared the Habs table .. that is awesome!! Man, I wish he had fallen just one more spot past the Kraken.
