Why? Because he is conservative and not a raving libtard?
- darkerens

Maybe because "conservatives" would force Ripley to go through with the Alien birth.

But yeah. What you said.

Just think about the assets spent to acquire Ristolainen, and TDA.

Think about the assets spent to move Ghost.

This is the worst management team in the league.

There are a lot of conservative hockey players. That's not the issue.

How is a a 2nd, 3rd, 4th bad for a 27 year old RH D in his prime too much?

If it wasn't Tony D many would be applauding this move.

- hello it's me 2050

And, if he had not been available last year and we had not gotten Ellis. I like the player. I hate the way our FO flails around and wastes assets.

I am a conservative. This has nothing to do with his political views.

It’s about a team that just finished bottom 5, throwing away assets time after time for marginal improvement.

It’s poopty management.

- FlyerFan3260

It is bad management for not recognizing they need to rebuild.

Knowing they are not going to do that this is a good move.

DeAngelo is an RFA, not a UFA.

Oh. Ok. That makes more sense then.

It’s more that Carolina was not signing him, many teams in the league want nothing to do with him, hurricanes were dealing from a position of weakness, but somehow we send a landfill of picks.

So we traded 3 picks for the rights to an impending ufa?? I must be missing something here.

I’m fine with picking him up but seems like an over pay. I had kicked that we trade a first for the rights to jg but I wasn’t serious.

- Hextall271

He was an RFA, he'll be a UFA after the 2 yr deal he signed.

I do not like moving so many picks. They need to be stockpiling them.

There's a lot more to it then he has a history of character issues.

- The cost to acquire him
- The cap hit they don't have
- The locker room

AND

Ellis is done. Same thing when they signed Hayes, they knew Patrick was done.

Tony D does a lot of on ice work with local youth players. Skates with them somewhat frequently and easy to talk to. No publicity. Helps out more than anyone, like yourself and others would know. He is a good guy.

Funny thing is he wanted to play for Philly last season. Flyers didn’t show much interest. Wonder if that was an AV call.

They are foolishly in win "now" mode. So when you look at it from that perspective it is good move. 27 year old D in his prime. Real good move.

admittedly i dont know every ins and outs. im not talking about trump this or that, thats politics and thats his business. but some of the stuff reported about how he treated people was pretty poopty and he just acted out in other instances. That being said, sure he could be wonderful behind closed doors. Let's see how he acts. right now, the material on him makes him enjoyable to dislike.

i agree with the on ice product. he will help it. he brings an element that they needed big time. i just dont think he is SO good that he will single handedly vault them to contention status (not a knock on him, i dont know if any one single defender would do that right now). So to me, he increases the chance of say finishing 4th and missing out on wright, or some other equivalent of that next year.

this move, while not his fault, collectively pulls the flyers in the exact opposite of the direction they should be rowing.

I’m looking past the player. I’m looking at asset management.

There is a team that spent one million in cap space to have him come in, and produce for a year. Then there is Fletcher, and his Flyers.

If you don’t think this is an overpay, even ignoring what I posted above I don’t know what to say.

I don't think Carolina would have let him walk for nothing. Could have still had him back on a 1 year deal as a RFA I believe

Agreed, but supporting the president at that time questioning lockdowns shouldn’t make you a pariah, just like supporting Biden and pro choice shouldn’t make you one now? Most people are in the middle, a little left or a little right, and condemning someone for an opinion or two they have is ridiculous. People seem to be really critical of others but rarely use that same degree of scrutiny on themselves.

When's the last time the Flyers acquired a guy with alleged character issues and it didn't devolve into a giant circus?
- Tomahawk

I know I read he made racists comments I think when he was in Juniors. Can someone point me towards more recent comments. Plus aren't people allowed to grow, I mean the late great senator Robert Byrd was in the KKK and "reformed" himself?

Could you imagine if they pair Deangelo and Provorov together as the top pair...

Maybe they are trying to tank and are being smart about it.

I guess CF took York seriously when he indicated that he didn’t like playing the right side.
