Patrik Allvin has been on the job for less than 6 months, just completed his first draft, and the HB Bitches are already crying. Jesus fucking Christ. |

As a fan base we’ve female doged about management and ownership having a “win now” attitude. This management group has drafted very young players they can develop on their terms, under their guidance. I say bravo. That tells me they have a plan to actually use their development system to produce the prospect pool this franchise hasn’t had in a very very long time. Again, I say bravo. |

Using a couple teams, who hired new managementat around the same time frame as the Canucks, Anaheim and Montreal, one of which was in a higher position than the Canucks, you, have a couple good comparisons on the moves and house cleaning that can be, and should be done.
Both those teams made a decision that it was time to move on from some players and acquire different talent, while maintaining what those teams consider to be their future core.
Obviously Montreal was in a bit of a different boat this year, but still moved out several players, including a young defenseman, and acquired a young centre to help fill an organizational need.
Anaheim also chose to dump some players and selected several players in the 1st 2 rounds, to fill some organizational needs.
Both these teams, also had a player that they plan on building around, Mtl, Suzuki, Anaheim, MacTavish, on stage for 1st round selections, which I thought was interesting.
Vancouver on the other hand, has done very little in the 6 month time frame that you mention
Yes, I realize that there is a mess to clean up, but both Montreal and Anaheim also have similar situations as the Canucks, and are actually doing something about it.
Edit: forgot to mention Chicago as well. |

Both Montreal and Anaheim (and now Chicago) are going through full rebuilds. And Chicago is laughable as well – how would this fan base have reacted to trading away Petey and QH without trading out JTM, Myers, etc?
Van is a bit handcuffed, as they're better teams than Montreal and Anaheim, but also not good enough to compete/have a shallow prospect pool/have very few assets to trade. I would have loved Van to trade away older players, but I'm not gonna sit here thinking I know more about their plan than they do.

Awesome...
Dreger saying the Canucks plan is to sit back and see if teams who miss out on free agency circle back on Miller.
Mentions if Canucks don't get the return they want they are happy to bring Miller back next season. - VanHockeyGuy

My point was, how much can get done in 6 months, which is what bloated stated.
Using Pouty and Hughes as examples, is why I said Anaheim and and Montreal, to a lesser extent, chose their young core, and moved out several players, who they decided weren't a part of the retool/rebuilding process.
Montreal fans, who are used to winning, are more than accepting a transition, I am sure the Vancouver fans would be able to handle one as well.
In regards to Montreal and Anaheim being inferior teams, the Habs were Stanley Cup finalists, just 1 year ago and Anaheim was ahead of the Canucks and in a playoff position, when they started making changes to their roster.
Back to my original point, lots can get done in 6 months, you just have to be willing to do it. |

Canucks will be fine. Lots of teams need a top line or 2nd line centre and will pay a decent price eventually….. teams like NYR, CBJ, PITT, Minny, Carolina, Boston, Washington and Colorado. Teams like Toronto, NYI, and NJ either are in win now mode or are desperate to take that next step. Some of those teams will be able to fill their need by free agency, but some may become pretty desperate. I’m glad the Canucks didn’t pull the trigger at the draft. Chicago really screwed the market price for guys like Miller as they were desperate to give players away for just picks |

That's just a very basic notion that misses the context of what's happening. I mean, sure, I agree, a lot can happen in 6 months if you just have a fire sale. But after years of knee-jerk reactions, and flip-flopping between plans, I'm fine with a bit more careful planning and forethought to a process. |

Yes, I diagnosed the problem with a multimeter, removed the part that was broken (heating coil), ordered a new one from Amazon, replaced it. YouTube helped a lot, but it was actually pretty easy and saved us about $300. - 1970vintage

Decent picks made at the draft. Lots of time left before the season starts. |

Lekkerimäki looks interesting. Did some more digging and that kid has an amazing shot. Pettersson-esque. Hoping he's another one if the pundits are correct and the kid should have gone at 8OA we may have a steal. Although there were good D available at 15 which I would have looked at first. See where it goes they say the kid is 2 years away from NHL level play but we'll see. |

I have no idea what is happening, or what the teams plan is, and I doubt anyone here does. I was just using examples of what a new GM can get done in 6 months.
Other than no player of significance being moved out, during 2 major opportunities, the TDL and the draft, they obviously like what they have, or they have set the prices for a return on their players, too high.
As far as the draft went, the only pick I was concerned about, other than not taking Pickering or Bischel in the 1st, was the 3rd round pick.
Todd Harvey has since explained that they scouted him very heavily and he personally scouted him many times, which works for me.
Also, Lekkerimaki was the BPA, so can't complain about that, although I will continue to pout about them not taking a defenseman.😁
I also was impressed with the Gardner pick in the 4th, who I thought would go a round earlier. |

Of course a lot can happen in 6 months, but comparing teams that are trying to do different things isn't quite fair. But yes, in 6 months a lot of moves can be made – both good and bad (see Chicago). |

1. Asking price/term on new contract is shocking
2. Miller doesnt want to negotiate until season end
3. Wants to go to free agency and have full control
4. Management is worried they don't trade but express interest to Miller as a UFA - boonerbuck
None of that would matter. You let them talk and if something works out you get a good deal back. If talks aren’t good then they walk away. Which they did anyway. There is no down side at all to letting them talk. |

I realize Debricat is a good goal scorer, but Chicago management said they badly wanted Korchinsky and want to build from there.
They didn't believe he would be around for them to take later and wanted a franchise type defenseman.
Same with the Kirby Dach move, they liked the players that were available at the time and pulled the trigger.
So, they chose a plan and went with it |
