In hindsight, it sure looks like CF gave up a lot of draft picks just to end up in pretty much the same place he started. He’s just an awful GM.
DeAngelo made a good impression, on me, in his press conference. I know as a good libtard I’m supposed to hate him, but I kinda liked him. I did a little research to find out why I should hate him, but really couldn’t come up with much; name calling, fighting with a teammate, being a Trump fan, and some dumb Covid opinions. Sounds like he’s sorry about his behavior and trying to keep his opinions to himself. Seems like he was a good boy last year. I like the tough South Philly (really Jersey) kid angle. I like that he’s an aggressive player. Sure he’s a knucklehead, but he’s a pro athlete. I assume most of them are knuckleheads. I don’t really see where he fits into this lineup, but I’m not going to hate on him for it. I’ll leave the hate for Fletcher and Comcast. - Dkos
Some of what you mentioned is not a negative. I don't like the deal for a variety of reasons but that's not on DeAngelo. I have my opinion about him as a player but I'm going to keep an open mind and judge him on his play as a Flyer. Not on his past.

They were also one different teams so using +\- to try to make a point is foolish - hereticpride
Comparative to there team numbers TDA was the second highest on his team and the best on 5v5 point differential. Ghost was 2nd worst on his team. |

DeAngelo plus 30 ( second best on the Hurricanes)
Ghost negative 54.
I just read a report about when he came back from injury and how the pp suffered from his absent but his contributions to the defense was also missed (or something to that effect). Bill even mentioned that this part of his game has improved. Not saying he is a beast in D. Just saying if we are looking at last year to compare Ghost and TDA then the nod goes to the Tony D. - peesinwind
If you put DeAngelo on some bad teams that Gostisbehere has been on and put Gostisbehere on Carolina. What do you think would happen with that +/-?
If you're just looking at last year, where do you get the negative 54 from?

That doesn’t change things. Arizona’s offense was putrid compared to Carolina’s. How about goaltending? There are too many variables you’re not considering. |

You can’t believe it? Some people value morals over hockey. I know, absolutely shocking. 🤦♂️ - hereticpride
Did you do anything bad when you were young? I don't need you to answer. Sometimes in this world, people get lost and act out for a variety of reasons. Immature people do and say stupid things. Doesn't necessarily make them immoral or a bad person. We put people in prison for committing serious crimes. Rehabilitate them and let them out and give them a chance. Many become peaceful people and contribute to society. It seems to me that he has grown and has moved on from that part of his life. Why not give him a chance?

So if Ellis does return this means their 3rd pairing RHD will be making a minimum of $5 million regardless of who it is. Doesn’t sound like a cap position that you would intentionally trade yourself into. What’s the overall plan here? - Djapana

I gotta add also:
We put people in prison for minor crimes (violations) and let companies make profit off prison labor
And as added bonus strip those of their voting rights
But yes please continue |

Agreed on that. Like I said. This is just one data point. I’m not hung up on it. But it is supported by some reports on him from what CF said that Carolina said about him and what I read from someone covering the Hurricanes last season.
I’m taking it all with a grain of salt. But none of it says he was terrible on D last year. It only says he did well. Just pointing that out. |

I believe a line can be drawn from his incident in juniors to him punching his goalie to his general world view which he’s expressed without censoring himself. It’s not just his Twitter problems or whatever.
He’s had plenty of chances in his pro career, and I’d put money on him having plenty of chances throughout his time in organized hockey.
Not to mention, it fills no need for this team. A team that should be focusing on developing players, creating a winning culture without bullpoop and distractions, hired two big distractions already this year.
They’re cooked. We agree on that at least.

Actually the metrics for DeAngelo overall say he was putrid on defense last year.

Yeah. I was corrected about Ghost minus 54. That was for his career. He was -23 last year. Second worst on his team.
I agree that plus minus is a pretty general stat. I said I don’t value it much. Same with all the Corsi numbers. But they do paint a better picture of TDA then what most are saying about his Defense. Mostly just people giving eye test that haven’t seen him much last year.

The 2022 draft has been very disillusioning for me. It really points out what the Flyers management truly values, which is as archaic as goalies without a mask. Next to go is the FLA 2024 1st rd pick so they can get rid of JVR just so they could overpay JG, and, in time, will sacrifice more draft capital to get rid of that contract (amongst others). |

Actually they don't. DeAngelo's +/- is combination of the team and who he plays with and his offensive ability. His defensive metrics are really poor.

I was going off some Corsi numbers that Bill posted (at least I think it was Bill. Haha. I read so much on him I can’t keep my story straight). |

The amount of people we will have to fire and trade when Comcast comes to their senses and fires Fletcher is going to be crazy. Fletcher has infected every aspect of this organization with friends and Minnesota and Boston College. Our new top draft pick has a backstory that involves Fletcher. I don’t want to even learn his name.

I know what happened in Sarnia regarding the ethnic slur to a teammate. The information isn't public because the other party accepted TDA's apology, they mended fences and rebuilt a friendship and he prefers it to be water under the bridge. That has been respected.
The fight with Georgiev was flat out stupid. In that case, too, DeAngelo's quick temper led him to do something dumb.
He seems to understand that he's out of chances. Regarding the political stuff, he needs to keep that to himself regardless. - bmeltzer
Why do you think he should keep his political views to himself? Don't we leave in USA and not in USSR? Why Mary Clarke could write in USA Today opinion with heading: "The Flyers’ unnecessary trade for noted bigot Tony DeAngelo is a cowardly, disappointing move" and he cannot give his? She calls him "a noted, outspoken bigot and a toxic human being." I don't know him and cannot say what kind of human being he is but I'm pretty sure she doesn't know him either. I just think that the man is entitled to his opinion even if it is conservative views
