Morals ,please. Bo Belinski pitched for the Phillies. How far do you want to go back for examples? There’s dozens of them in Philly alone. Low morality numbers are the least of the Flyers problems. - Djapana
“Well some dumb rapist wiener played for the Phillies 30 years before you were ever a fan so that equates to the flyers decision to trade for the player two days ago give it a rest man come on” |

I have seen both play well over 150 games..TD is way better in the D zone than Ghost..He will compete...battle for pucks...and be physical none of which Ghost would do. Saying that he is still not a good defensive player but not Ghost brutal - hfc355
Ghost
EVO 0.35
EVD -0.64
PP 0.01
WAR 2.06
DeAngelo
EVO 0.64
EVD -0.82
PP 0.01
WAR 0.87
The numbers were similar between this this past season on O, D and on the PP. Tony was marginally worse than Ghost on D this season, and better on O. Ghost slightly better on the PP. They are VERY similar players.
The only discrepancy has to do with penalties. Tony D doesn't draw many and he takes a lot of them. Ghost draws penalties and he doesn't take them.
Overall, Ghost had a bigger positive impact last season than Tony D did for his team. |

The eye test seems to say he’s a huge net positive on the ice, so does his plus minus, but charts tell all - ClaudeFather
Why did the Canes decide not to re-sign him? Is 5M a year not a good deal for a huge net positive?

His plus minus was a product of his partner (Slavin) and his goalies combining to save over 30 goals above expected.
The Canes gave up a ton more chances when Tony D was on the ice. |

It's also in part due to his offensive ability.

There could be multiple reasons CLiff. Though it wont matter as you are always correct everyone else is wrong.

For sure, but can't overstate just how good the Canes were at preventing goals as a team (1st-overall in GA). And it was in spite of Deangelo. |

No question about that. He's not going to be in the same situation here. So his effectiveness overall is likely to decline. His defensive issues are likely going to be brought more to the forefront. Best thing they could do is play him with Provorov is heavy offensive situations. The issue is the Flyers don't have the pairings to take on the remaining heavy lifting.

Not arguing the data but Canes wanted to, just no cap space, from what I heard.

So getting away from the Deangelo talk, I see the development camp info was released today....looking at the roster a few players are missing. Jay O'Brien is not there, but I know he just had hip surgery, although we never heard much about that from the Flyers...Bobby Brink isn't listed as attending though either. Is he injured/recovering from injury as well?
Further to that, the release mentions who is running the camp...
"The camp will be run by the Flyers Player Development Staff, which consists of Senior Advisor to the General Manager/Player Development, Mike O'Connell and Director of Player Development, Kjell Samuelsson, as well as John Riley, Brady Robinson and Chris Stewart."
I swear Bill mentioned recently in a post that Samuelsson had a reduced role in development now, but he's still listed here in a key role as the director of player development.....and I thought Chris Stewart was no longer with the organization, but he's back again working at the development camp? Is this info/release from today correct?

Actually, the Canes have a bunch of middle end talent to sign. They have to do some maneuvering.
Guys like Martin, Torcheck, Domi, Niederreiter, Cole and Bear to name a couple. Only 19 to work with. |

The Canes were willing to bring him back at the right price. They obviously weren't willing to pay him what the Flyers did. Good teams will make room for huge net positive players. He isn't that. |

So glad the development of players is left to this stellar group. Lots of great hockey minds there.

Yeah, they need to bring Braun back or somebody like him. The entire d-corps is heavily skewed toward offense side of the puck right now.
The right side of the D is scary bad in their own zone w/o Ellis. |
