Slavin played a ton of minutes without TonyD last season, and in his minutes with Cole and Bear, he was on the ice for far fewer chances and shots against on average.

(His pairing with Bear actually yielded stronger possession #s too)

Tony D also gets taken off the ice in many critical defensive situations, and gets on the ice in offensive situations. That pads his +/-. Meanwhile, Slavin gets double shifted into the defensive zone protecting/holding leads.

+/- is misleading as hell unless you consider context.

huh, but scoring changes against is not misleading?? No one thinks DeAngelo is a defensive stall worth, but still being a +30 is nothing to sneeze at either. DeAngelo is an offensive defenseman that can move the puck and QB the power play; that is what he is. He is also working on becoming a better defensive player. I don't understand why so many people get so entrenched in advanced metrics. The bottom line is Carolina proved last year that you can have the best defensive team in the league and also have an offensive defenseman at the same time. So why is this a problem for the Flyers??

If something didn’t happen…how does it become news so loud, the player in question’s father gets in front of a camera and speaks out for him.

Maybe it didn’t really happen the way it was reported or maybe something happened and the story got twisted, either way, let’s not be naive to believe nothing happened at all.

I have little doubt that Fletch is aggressively pursuing another big time move like a JG, Kane, Kadri level move. Obviously he will need to create cap space to do so. JVR is a mangey mutt, and him & his contact have negative trade value in today’s NHL. Fletch is literally running out of picks to attach in order to move these bad contracts, and I gotta think even he isn’t dumb enough to give away 1st rounders. So that leaves other roster players that other teams might possibly want. I’m thinking maybe something dumb like JVR with some salary retained & either TK or Provy to a team like Seattle or Arizona for like a 4th rd pick in return. Something like that. It creates cap space and keeps draft picks. Never mind the fact that it’s accepting pennies on the dollar for whoever the non-JVR roster player ends up being. Unfortunately I see that as totally something that Fletch would do

Some GM will probably come in and throw offer sheets at Tippet and Frost just to screw with them. The Flyers couldn't even match a 3rd round pick level OS at the moment without it screwing everything else.

I am black and I’ve heard not so great things about this guy well before he got here, which gives me pause. Now sure, what I heard could be wrong. I’ll cheer no different if he scores a game winning goal. My issue has become less about him (because maybe he is innocent) and more about people brushing the possibly off as if it’s impossible. That in itself is ignorant.
