The fact that people outside of this board have to question whether he is or not is already a problem. |
|

The Flyers don’t have very many players of color so I thought it was noticeable in light of recent conversation on DeAngelo that he was mentioned in this interview.
Personally, I am not one to believe what I am told, either good or bad, and would rather do my own homework. Maturity is a big deal, I will judge what I see.

The Flyers said they did their due diligence on Tony last summer. Bill do you know why then they didn’t sign him?
There wasn’t even an attempt by my recollection. |

Well he basically had 3 options. Stay quiet and let everyone on these threads, media outlets, and social media run with a narrative that he is a racist. He could have said that he was a racist (which he vehemently denies). Or, as he did do, publicly deny such accusations. Each and every person will evaluate what they deem to be his credibility and will obviously, fairly or unfairly, make their own personal judgments of him.
Love the passion that everyone has, and the subject matter is deep and very important. Nonetheless, here’s hoping CF does something, in all likelihood monumentally stupid, so then we can get back to talking about hockey, complaining about this bad common experience of being Flyers fans, and start ripping in to each other over unimportant things. |

The people on this board or media don’t matter at all. It’s the people in the locker room that matter. His most recent team has vouged for him, let it play out. |

You said it was "pretty poopty". I assumed you were referring to the manner of getting rid of her presence, not just its removal. I certainly was.
The franchise has turned into an antiseptic satire of itself. - PT21
I think we’re saying the same thing. Ha ha. Yes, poopty the way it was done. Don’t really miss her and am not sad that she’s gone though. Also, I can understand that some patrons were offended and Comcast had to do something. Comcast seems to have a knack for doing things the wrong way. |

Your introduction to your new fanbase is "I'm not a racist and my dad said that we just grew up like this so its all good"
not a good start, by any measure.

We have no choice but to let it play out but let me paint a picture for you and I’m hoping you watched his zoom interview.
This team is already bad. John Tortorella is already a guy who isn’t afraid to speak his mind and get into people’s faces. Tony DeAngelo admits he’s made mistakes (not denied), that he’s a fiery guy and can get carried away but it’s all in the name of winning. What happens and what gets said by this guy if we continue to be awful? Most of you hate Ristolainen. Imagine TDA says something to a teammate the way you guys speak of players on this board? Tony DeAngelo was basically kicked out of the league by the New York Rangers for nearly a year. Whatever he did, it was bad. So we as fans can ask the question if he’s the right guy to help us get back on track. |

Fake rage - furio16
Fingers in your ears Furio, fingers in your ears.
But just because you're plugging your ears, doesn't mean others who have given their time, money and energy to this franchise for a lifetime, have to.

Is this a quote from DeAngelo? Do you have a link.
Again, address Waddell comments on DeAngelo.

And I watched his career start. I've already said that. I sat next to his ass one night in the penalty box when I was working the door. He's not a great defender, his temper is not controlled. Fine, he was behaved on a very good team that had a shot at winning it all, can't wait to see how he reacts to this mess.
He addresses zero need hockey wise to this team. CF certainly didn't have to trade away assets to sign him with a 4 million dollar raise. So why is he here? |

"I'm absolutely not a racist" is the direct quote I believe.
I'm sure most of us haven't had to have that discussion with anyone ever, so why give this guy the benefit of the doubt involving a franchise we all know is cooked? |

You're not debating in good faith. You attributed a quote to DeAngelo. I asked a question and asked for a link. This is not a response to that.

I don't like the trade but I disagree that he addresses zero need hockey wise.

You’re right, as fans, we have no choice but to let it play out. Maybe by personality, I am prone to giving people time to mature without holding it against them for life. However, no matter personal feelings, I think it benefits everyone to let someone show that they are different now. Keep in mind, if he messes up, someone is sure to call him out, and he must realize that. That no one from Carolina did, says something, but now in some ways he has to prove it again. In reality, he will always need to prove it.

So you were being disingenuous with that quote. That does not reflect well on you.
Here is why and it's pretty simple to me. Sometimes people do bad things. Doesn't make someone automatically a bad person. Depends on the circumstances. Sometimes a person makes a racist comment. Doesn't automatically make someone a racist. Depends on the circumstances.
Give him the benefit of the doubt because he most recent behavior on the team he last played for was fine according to the GM.
For the record, I think you're entitled to your opinion on the player. Where you go wrong is this idea that you want to portray that those who feel otherwise have this obligation to think like you do. As well as bringing politics into it.

To quote Bill:
Friday @ 9:14 PM ET
I know what happened in Sarnia regarding the ethnic slur to a teammate. The information isn't public
So you might not be able to find exactly what happened on the internet but people in the know understand exactly what happened and agree it’s reprehensible to say the least - anti-lame
Ethnic slur? So it wasnt a racial slur? |

Nothing funny about it imo. Those songs were on Youtube and she was dead and so couldn't defend herself. TAD's offense is largely based on hearsay, this can be suppressed and he can do the South Philly thing you like.
Just stay clear of Geno's. - PT21
If saying racist poop gets you cancelled, how the hell did Biden get elected? That dude is straight up racist. |

Nope, Tony D brought his politics into it. I never once had a problem with any player from a politics perspective. They're mostly white, rich men. I'm not dumb, I know how most of em probably vote if they do vote, and you know what? that's not my business.
If I go on the internet and there are multiple examples of a player expressing their political opinion, well then ok lets play that game. I didn't go looking for it.
You want to keep acting like this quote from his previous GM of one really good season is enough. It's not.
