If saying racist poop gets you cancelled, how the hell did Biden get elected? That dude is straight up racist.
- Sir_Robot_Farts

I mean, I already said Let's (frank) Brandon or whatever for you guys what else do you want?

Biden sucks. Trump sucks. Obama sucks. Bush sucks. Clinton Sucks. I mean how far do you want me to go? This isn't even about politics. It's about being a decent, respectable person, which so far in his career, Tony D hasn't been able to show consistently.

Nope, Tony D brought his politics into it. I never once had a problem with any player from a politics perspective. They're mostly white, rich men. I'm not dumb, I know how most of em probably vote if they do vote, and you know what? that's not my business.

If I go on the internet and there are multiple examples of a player expressing their political opinion, well then ok lets play that game. I didn't go looking for it.

DeAngelo's politics have nothing to do with you calling out posters for their politics.

You want to keep acting like this quote from his previous GM of one really good season is enough. It's not.

- FloHaake

Again, you want to push your opinion on others as if they're obligated to feel the same way.

For a guy who claims that he can debate in good faith. You're doing a really piss poor job of it.

Ok, it's not enough for ME. Ok fine. You got me. I won't "push my opinion" any longer.

You of all posters should be here setting fire to this franchise right with me bud. I don't get it.

There is plenty of instances of me setting fire to this franchise. I don't have an issue with the non hockey stuff. I think he should be given a chance. You disagree, that's fine.

you guys still don't get it CF traded for him to be the universal player everyone hates
- 2Real

Not so much hates but gets worked up about - for or against is totally irrelevant.

Make enough noise =more people tune in = more take sides = more people watch =more ka-ching.

The only cure for this team is sustained indifference from the fan base. The reason Dave Scott is a successful businessman is because he believes, correctly imo, that this is not something the fanbase can do.

The bigger picture MJL, which I know you see, is ultimately where my "fake outrage" lies.

Tony D is fun because I've had an up close, extended look at his game, and poop, as a local, why WOULDN'T I cheer for the dude? Because he's a poopbag. And a dime a dozen "offensive defenseman" that if the Flyers were halfway competent at drafting and developing, they'd have about 4 right now.

Big picture my friend. They're clueless and don't care about winning. At all.

This. Politics aside, not many NHLers run into these extra curricular issues and that’s all we should we worried about.

If he was pumping Biden’s/the Lefts tires and still using anti-Semitic or racist language I’d still cast him off to sea. It’s beyond politics and is just basic decency. He can’t do any of the stuff he’s pulled in the past at ANY place of work.

You don't seem to understand that the off ice issues and the hockey reasons. Is really two different conversations. You want to mix them.

I don't agree with you that he is a poop bag. You don't seem to have any capacity to understand that people do change. People make mistakes. They shouldn't be condemned for the rest of their lives if they change their behavior. He seems to have done that the last year.

Someone mentioned Ray Emery earlier.

Ray was a hot head and by some accounts, a difficult guy to get along with in a team setting.

The season following the Sens 2007 Finals trip, Emery's starts running into some injury issues. Less than a year later, he was without a team and going to sunny Moscow to work his way back. And he still had to battle that reputation, still had to prove himself, was in the minors after Moscow. The dude worked to get back to his NHL crease.

Tony D was told to go home and got signed 8 months later to a really good squad.

Can anyone see the difference in treatment here? Is Ray Emery my moral compass in hockey? Hell no. But damn if the dude didn't prove his belonging in the NHL.

What's Tony had to do that's even close to that? Have some people on twitter call him racist?

I know you don't know me MJL, but trust me, I KNOW people can change, I believe it because I've done it. I won't get too personal, but I know what contrition looks like. I know what it means to look at yourself and say "this isn't working, I am not making things easier for myself, I need to change".

People like Tony D? Yeah, I'm not holding my breath on his ability to look inward and become a better version of himself. Sorry. He's been privileged his whole life, and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. Maybe he can be non-disruptive, but he's that guy. And that guy to me is toxic, and not someone I want to root for. Find me another hockey player in my 30 years of playing (besides Billy Tibbets) that I would even have that opinion on. There aren't any. This isn't how I've watched the game. This one is too far for me.

A new guy comes on at your place of work. His reputation is that he’s an bumhole and a bully, has been disciplined at jobs before for such behavior and is 18 months removed from being so toxic that his job before this last one told him to go home. This isn’t hearsay, this isn’t some rumor, it’s documented pattern with many eyewitnesses. Meanwhile, your place of work is really dysfunctional and not operating on even half the level of other businesses in your profession.

What’s your take on the dude, right then and there?

Oh MJL, please don't play that game. You know the money, the time, the resources it takes to play this game from childhood to your first pro game. You know the kind of people this game attracts. Don't act like this sport isn't far beyond the budget of many American families. He grew up with more than many, trust me.

So you're basing it on a generality instead of knowing the specifics of his case. The more we dive in. The more you show that you're full of it. Just my opinion.

So even if that is the case, does that make him different than any other NHL player if we want to play that game? Therefore it doesn't matter and doesn't separate DeAngelo from other players.

But just to be clear: if someone has not only the reputation, but the documentation of being a toxic bumhole, that doesn't matter because unless he turns to me and says something outta line, he's fine by me. Make your own judgments based on your interactions.

Got it. Interesting way to navigate things but you do you as well. Nothing but love, and that's real.

Yea you're not really understanding what I'm saying about privilege and how it pertains especially to the case of this hockey player i've been discussing for pages upon pages.

They're all privileged. Mostly. That never bothered me before. Neither did the interview I saw with Ryan Suter years ago where he said his favorite president was George W Bush. He was never a favorite of mine, but I didn't have it out for Suter after knowing a little bit about his politics. I'm not picking on the dude, if that's what you think.

So every kid who has played let’s say tier 1 hockey as a youth up through juniors or college to pro is privileged?

Seems you need everyone to agree with you, seems you may have facts I do not, please, by all means share them? It could change my life mission of giving EVERYONE every opportunity to prove they can be better. The world of writing people off might be easier for me.
