DeAngelo is not better defensively than Gostisbehere in my opinion. I
Give the edge to Gostisbehere there. Although I have seen a lot more of the latter player. They are extremely similar as players.

I have seen both play well over 150 games..TD is way better in the D zone than Ghost..He will compete...battle for pucks...and be physical none of which Ghost would do. Saying that he is still not a good defensive player but not Ghost brutal

TAD has 1 distinct skill I think that is better than Ghost's imo. He is a reader of developing plays and makes very good anticipatory passes. I have seen him do that many times.

Isn't Ivan best when he is leading the rush. Being more offensive? So to me that pair would not help either one that much and it may neutralize them to an extent.

There are no ideal pairs imo , excluding Ellis. Re-signing RR was such a terrible mistake.

- hello it's me 2050

The less Ivan has the puck the better. Once he get moving he doesn’t pass. He just gains the zone and puts a quick wrister on net. At first it surprised tendies, now it’s an easy freeze.

Did I miss the part where the NHL put a ban on making moves for the rest of the off-season?!?!?
- Lawless18

Not much then can do to make them a competitive playoff team for next year . Way too many holes and question marks. They will be better but even if they sign JG who are they going to be better than in their division Columbus maybe Caps with their injuries

What planet are you from dude? One guy was waived cause he sucked and was making too much money against the cap, and the other guy was waived cause of issues off the ice. What can't you get about that? Ghost sucks!! He wants to free lance and he's a coach killer and I'm glad he's out in the desert. Thanks again!

Gostisbehere's anticipation of plays is very strong. So I would disagree.

DeAngelo is not good in any aspect of defensive play. Gostisbehere has been a solid defender on the rush. Especially anticipating plays and breaking them up at the blue line. Neither is good once the puck is established. Edge to Gostisbehere.

If they get JG, at least they have some top end talent that will be fun to watch. That said, paying $9.5++ a year for 7 years on a team that should be torn down doesn’t make much sense.

But since they are hell bent on not tearing the team down at least give me some players that make the team enjoyable to watch because not only were they bad last year, they had zero exciting talent.

Remember when certainly people here argued relentlessly that they weren’t a slow team and didn’t lack high end talent a few years ago? Those were the days.

I would argue that Gjost's strength's as an offensive Dman is his own offense: his skating speed both forwards and laterally, his own shots and so on.

TAD I see more of as an enabler. Not just the first outlet pass, but finding the open man when the puck is in the offensive zone.

And you would be wrong Holmes. As you are about pretty much everything outside of hockey.

At 17th and Johnson there is a rec center. Ever been there, Holmes? The name of the guy who runs it is Anthony.

You know what Anthony is thinking of doing, Holmes? He is thinking of taking his beaten tennis courts and adding Pickleball lines. Pickleball, in that neighborhood! And do you know why the city is putting so much money into FDR park, right across from where the Flyers play?

Why do I bring these two things up? Because they are related to what I was saying. Am I gonna explain? Nah.

Now go find someone else to fight with about things they haven't said but which you think they imply. I myself am off to the Union League to enjoy my Saturday foie gras, Holmes.

I was just there last week for my boy's kids baseball game. Nice fields and they have a great man's cave scoreboard area

Ah I did not know you were a dad! I knew you had a fiance but not kids.

I haven't been since Covid. The non-grassy part of the center: the kid's playgrounds and swings and courts and stuff used to be pretty weather beaten.

I heard about the Pickleball from some other rec managers I happen to be friends with.

The Flyers still aren't a slow team. They have been lacking overall elite skill for a while. Even more so now with the removal of Giroux and Voracek.

Well, I just looked at their stats. Ghost has a much higher fraction of his total points as goals compared to TAD.

Last season, same and in addition, Ghost has 25% of his points last season as first assists 5-on-5. Tony had 40%.

Not definitive by any means, but does seem to confirm what I said.

Ghost….I’ve never seen a skater leave his skates while defending in all my life. Just flops to his belly looking for quarters.

Have to account for the discrepancy in team talent. Reality is that they are very similar as players.

Provorov needs to be paired with a defenseman who is capable of skating the puck out of the d-zone. When he has to do all of the heavy d-zone exit lifting himself, he struggles and the puck seems like a hand grenade.
