You can't give a 30 year old second line center 9 million dollars a year for 7 years (as I am sure he will want). You especially don't do it as a team that is building. - Slump Buster
Would a 3 year deal at $8M per change your perspective? |

then you don't give him 7 years. Honestly he's probably more in the neighborhood of 7 mil but all this Patrick Kane talk has me talking crazy like my jaw broke |

Some of the 3rd and 4th round players look to be a hit (in 3-4 years).
Nice draft! I know nothing of these prospects or how they can grow, but great insight on this years draft. Hope Adams and their scouts have got a solid grasp on drafting, would make a huge difference moving forward (being able to hit on players past the 1st round). |

Then you won't get him. This is his only chance to really get paid - why would he go back out to free agency at 33 or 34? If he didn't care about getting paid then he would stay with the Avalanche.

They will always be looking to add or upgrade but I think the vast majority of the roster is set right now. That's not a bad looking D at all. - Slump Buster
The trio of Pilut, Bryson, and Fitzgerald needs help.
There will be injuries, and they need depth.
Especially quality depth, as you're relying heavily on very young players, 2 of which have very few NHL games at all. |

It's by far the 2nd most predicted deal by Evolving Hockey, and the reason why is no team may want to give him a deal for 7 years. |

Cuz if you and I know 7 years is bad for his age then I'm sure the general managers know this as well |

You're kidding, right? Letang just got 6 years going into his age 36 season. Just go back and look at all of the awful contracts given out in free agency. These kind of contracts happen all of the time and the minute that they are signed everyone knows it isn't going to end well.

40 mil 5 years max - chilliard77
That's probably a lot closer to being safe. The problem for us then becomes the last 2 or 3 years of that contract. We have 5 more years of Skinner but we need to start paying a lot of the kids during the back half of those 5 years. This isn't the NFL where you can make it a soft cap. The salaries have to slot and - like it or not - Adams knows that he doesn't want to take on big contracts for more than 2 years.

I like Kadri a bit, especially playoff Kadri, but we have to pass. |

I think we are on the path that worked for so many other teams. You build through the draft and continue to look for hockey trades once you are well on your way. You look for trades like the one they made to get Kadri, and even though you give up an asset you get a guy that is already signed. Tampa made many similar moves.

Is it weird to say that I will be amazed at the next deal. And I don't know if I mean that in a good way |

I would seriously consider Nazem Kadri. Dudes a beast. Give him 9mil - chilliard77
Nope. Don’t Kyle Okposo contract it. Also take into consideration that the top line / players took a lot of heat off him.
Think Derek Roy when we had Drury and briere
Once he became the man. He wasn’t great |

Honestly it’s great we aren’t ready right now. These horrible contracts will help those teams now (when we aren’t ready) and devastate them when we are contenders. Despite the people who think “only fans care about cap” |

Isn't the point of signing someone like Kadri, Trocheck, or Copp that they won't need to 'be the man' due to the depth the Sabres have? |

I bet they already know Kadri isn't interested.

The Sabres don’t have “the man” now unless you’re assuming it’s Tage. |

Has Tuch ceased to exist?
How about the other quality forwards the Sabres have?
The point is they have depth now, which has not been the case in the past.
That means better support if any UFA's are brought in, both for the players already here and the ones brought in. |
