did he refuse to sign something for you?
- homiedclown

Because Im worried about his defense?

Not necessarily directed at you, though If you can answer it I'd appreciate it, but I don't understand the staunch defense of this guy. Is it because he was part of the Eichel trade?

Like I get he's got massive upside I don't dispute that but I don't think based on his play so far it's so ridiculous to be worried about his defense in the top 6.

Adams is said he aint blocking the kids.

You think Heinin will sign to be the 13th forward?

I think they're content with Bjork being the 13th guy

- DirtyDan

Signing Danton Heinen isn’t blocking anyone. Good lord

And that is the right play. I can't see bringing in a bottom 6 guy unless one of the vets was the one going out (and that isn't happening). Anyone else that he would be replacing is going to have a higher upside.

Yes. And because he made those 3-4 wow plays.

Guy was brutal 90% of the time.

That being said he could very well make a nice leap this year

Looking at what Debrincat got, I doubt any team would give up a quality option that wasn't at least priced similarly. And it's not just cat. It's every winger trade of recent memory. They'll take less of a return, or they'll keep him. Best case would be like a Dumba, decent dman, but the cap is essentially the same.
- SDSabre

But that's exactly why Nylander would probably get a return that is higher than Debrincat - he has term and costs much less while having similar production. If Debrincat had the same contract the return would have been much, much more. Same thing with Rhino. Both were RFAs.

I don't deny the talent, just surprised he's immune to the growing pains of being a young player in the league.

I’d be willing to bet money one of JJ or Quinn, or both will find themselves in Rochester or the press box at multiple points during this season.

They’re rookies

And I really think we need to stop obsessing over the last x years. It shouldn't change what we do next.

- Slump Buster

It absolutely should. When your building resembles a morgue more than a sports arena on home nights, you should figure something out. Maybe one of the lessons would be having one NHL goalie is more important than 7 (8 if you count Z train) 1st round centers. Or, that free agent HoFers are better than Krebs or MItts. Or that 40 goal 24 year olds don't ruin any plans.

KA seems like a real great guy who cares a lot. He also seems like a guy who can only dump players after they've spent years failing here or sign the cast offs of other teams. I have zero faith he'll ever be able to being in talent. His fall back of PWWTBH doesn't work anymore. It's his job to make people want to be here. He's small time with nothing to show he can take this team to the next step. Thanks for throwing the accelerants out of the dumpster with us, Kevin, but we're still in a dumpster, and it's still on fire.

Vey limited room. And id rather give the spot to JJ or Quinn over signing Heinan to 2+ year contract
- DirtyDan

JJ and Quinn are wingers. heinan is a center.

So how is he blocking anything?

I was amazed that adding a career over PPG player who’s probably top 50 all time isn’t as important as getting Casey Mittelstadt and Krebs ice time

We are prob not a bottom 5 team next year so we will miss out most likely with all those top of draft studs.

We won’t win a cup but a run to playoffs will be more valuable long term to our young guys then being like the 9th worst team.

With all that said, I’m not giving up my 1st next year. They can have two 2nds, Johnson and Olo. Throw a Russian winger in. Not giving up more than that

- Fattony1187
If he is gonna block trades. Which or would not surprise me if he did, I can't see it costing too much more than what you outlined.

But people saying we aren't at the right time to add a player like Kane are really buying into the propaganda from the PR department.

Team is young, severely under the cap, has plenty of youth, plenty of picks, there hasn't been a better time to bring in a player of kane's caliber.

I love hearing (not directed at you) we can't sepnd money now because in 3 years we might need it. Not one good team in the NHL operates that way.

Maybe Roch but not the press box. Possibly Quinn, certainly not Paterka - I think he could have easily been here last year if we really wanted him to be. Meatballs has never been one to punish the kids and I love that he will just toss them out there in every situation. Just see how they handled Krebs last year.

Our roster is set. You'll see the = of an Eakin or a Hayden signed. And, of course, Charlie Lindgren.

If you have a time machine I'd be happy to add Malkin or any other over-the-hill center. I need to find my #2 center for the next 4 years and old man Malkin doesn't help with that.

You could not be more wrong. When you are building you don't bring in contracts like that. Look at the mistake that Toronto made with Tavares. Look at how Skinner is going to hurt us in 3 years.

Never mind the teams that messed up, look at the teams that did it the right way. Colorado had a decade that rivaled ours up until last year. Did they run out to buy an aging star? No. Neither did Tampa. Stay the course so you get the cheaper home-grown talent and then sprinkle in vets when the window opens. This also assures that you have your contracts slotted correctly.

Right, but Krebs absolutely sucked too.

I think he will eventually be ok, to really good as a middle six C/W, but his underlying numbers and the eye test were brutal

the mistake Toronto made? Pretty sure they are consistently one of the best teams in the NHL. They know how to trade other players for cap space.
