It’s really simple

People loved ROR - therefore dogged Thompson at every turn

People hate Jack - will defend the guy that passes to no one every other possession

- sbroads24

I mean, it made sense for thompson for a while there.

I've never dealt with so many sour reactions talking about any other player on the Sabres than Krebs. Even when I was extremely critical of Dahlin.

Who knew he was related to everyone in BUF. Hope he feels at home lol

Right, but Krebs absolutely sucked too.

I think he will eventually be ok, to really good as a middle six C/W, but his underlying numbers and the eye test were brutal

- sbroads24

He looked like a rookie with a lot of promise. Lots of mistakes but lots of great plays as well. I'll take the same from Quinn, Power and JJ this year.

[quote=Slump Look at how Skinner is going to hurt us in 3 years.

Explain very clearly and show the math where the Skinner contract has hurt us. The Jeff Skinner contract has never hurt us. In fact his scoring has been essential to the limited success we do have and we remain tens of millions of dollars from the cap ceiling.

What exactly do you mean by hurt us? in 3 years? 1st of all what is the cap in 3 years? Is Jeff Skinner still scoring 30 goals? Is he still a good 5 on 5 player?

Tell me about Skinner's contract hurting us when it's actually hurting us.

the mistake Toronto made? Pretty sure they are consistently one of the best teams in the NHL. They know how to trade other players for cap space.
- TaroTsujimoto5

Well, yes, you are right. They are a very good team. And they had to pay another team a first rounder (!!!!!) to take a player off of their roster. Their roster is built in such a way that they can't make the moves they need to make and now they are going to have to move a valuable piece again to try to fix that. They maybe very good but it isn't good enough.

This is what happens when you say "we'll fix it later" in a league with a hard cap

They should all be under the same set of expectations. Lots of promise, lots of work to do.

They didn't give up the first out right, they moved down like 12 spots. Which according to draft value charts, is worth like a 6th or 7th rounder.

Oh you mean you have 100 point seasons and make the playoffs? Yeah that's so much worse than our position.

Maybe Roch but not the press box. Possibly Quinn, certainly not Paterka - I think he could have easily been here last year if we really wanted him to be. Meatballs has never been one to punish the kids and I love that he will just toss them out there in every situation. Just see how they handled Krebs last year.
- Slump Buster

Quinn would have spent half the season in Buffalo, if not for the slide rule. By all accounts, Peterka had a lot of work do to round out his game.

KA hindered Quinn and UPL last season. His 'don't block' and 'want to be here' speeches are getting old and easy to see through.

You could not be more wrong. When you are building you don't bring in contracts like that. Look at the mistake that Toronto made with Tavares. Look at how Skinner is going to hurt us in 3 years.

Never mind the teams that messed up, look at the teams that did it the right way. Colorado had a decade that rivaled ours up until last year. Did they run out to buy an aging star? No. Neither did Tampa. Stay the course so you get the cheaper home-grown talent and then sprinkle in vets when the window opens. This also assures that you have your contracts slotted correctly.

I thought you said a page or two earlier that the Leafs are a very good team and wouldn't surprise you if they were the favorite to come out of the east?

Again (since you were bouncing around), I never said it is hurting us or that it has hurt us. You can only have so many big contracts and if you're going to pay a guy 9 mill he better be your star. Skinner is a flawed but useful player when everything is going right. But the fact is that he is a $9 million dollar winger and he isn't nearly worth that. Also, he is a winger.

I did. I think they will move Nylander for a D and get another goalie. That doesn't change the fact that they screwed up by having to trade Nylander in the first place.

heinan plays all 3 spots, and typically is used as a center.
- TaroTsujimoto5

https://www.capfriendly.com/players/danton-heinen

Every website has him listed as a winger so I will as well. And daily faceoff clearly has him on the right wing where he last played.

Thanks tho

Toronto's franked. They have a 2 year window closing fast.

Arizona will pay Matthews as much as they need to get him home.

They've probably had better odds the last 5 years and haven't gotten anything done.

How do you figure? Old man Tavares already can't skate so it isn't like they worry about him falling off of a cliff. They aren't old in any other position that I can think of.

I doubt that - second is impressive. My point is that the experts acknowledge that they are an elite team. If a couple of breaks go their way they could have gone a lot farther this year.

31+ mill tied in 3 players is no good.

No team has ever won with a player making more than 10 and they have 3.

Only three more years left of Tavares contract. They'll give Matthews 8 years and the captaincy and move on.
