No we have been stocking since Botts, we were actually well on are way before TM tore it apart. So when would be a good time to start sprinkling, 2-3-4yrs when some of these kids might not be here or don't fit what Granato wants. I really hope these players hit, but they had a chance to make there team better now, without hurting the future. - Buff36
For Debrincat it was all about the cap hit. We can agree to disagree there.
For me, when we are on the edge of making that last jump into contender status then you sprinkle in wherever you need it. For all we know we are loaded and we will only want to tweak. As per my other post I am personally happy to just watch it grow for a while.

VH and CE both played meaningful minutes to be replaced by rookies. CE minutes were mostly against top lines.
More importantly our goaltending situation is worse than it was last year unless you think CA ages like fine wine.
Until smalltime KA brings in some people we have rookies filling holes and even less goaltending. Thats better? - lacaprup
That is false
Cody Eakin averaged 14 minutes of ice per game since March 1st and Vinnie averaged 13:30 of ice per game in that time frame
Which was when the Sabres were playing their best hockey

Beyond that, the third line could be an absolute terror because of the way they skate. I remember Roy, Max and Vanek terrorizing people on that line when they first came up.

Does that make them not meaningful minutes? |

I think the one thing that we all agreed on is that Eakin could have been shot into the sun and we would have rejoiced. He did play minutes, unfortunately.
Hinostrosza was a nice find in the discount bin. I think he is a poor man's Paterka, so why not just play Paterka? |

So, we're a playoff team as our roster stands now with Charlie Lindgren or his equivalent in net? Because we both know that's the roster.

Have No problem with that, everyone has there views. And don't get Me wrong I really like the growth from the players and what Donnie brings. I just think they missed a opportunity to help themselves without really doing any damage. |

Yeah sure, my point is if we can get Malkin or another great FA we're goddamn dummies not to. |

Never said that. This thread is about your statement that somehow we are worse than the end of last year. Other than being down a (fantastic) mullet we aren't missing anything from last year.

You think Malkin comes here over returning to his bff's or going to play with OV?

How we finished the standings requires context, especially bcz the Sabres spent 3/4ths of the season icing an incomplete roster. |

2 years $26 million. If it isn't offered the only excuses are our ownership is cheap or our GM is stupid. If he says no he says no. |

Scrubs out, Quinn, Paterka and Power (full time) in. UPL in. And more importantly, everyone is a year older and the kids are more accustomed to playing a full season (that clearly caught up with some of them). Which scrubs are we going to miss? - Slump Buster
I’m not ready to say they’re better or worse but you have to know that 3 rookies in 3 main spots (top 4, top 9) are going to have weeks/months of struggles. They just are.

Fair, but if they roll into this year with Yoopie and Andy in goal, they can't use that excuse again when they're inevitably hurt. One is 41 and the other is always hurt |

They absolutely will make mistakes. All the more reason to let them play now.
But keep in mind that things started to turn around when we let the kids play. They will make mistakes but it doesn't have to be painful.
Also, getting Vets doesn't guarantee winning either. |

having close to 40 mil in cap space and saying you are not going to use it to improve your team guarantees another non playoff season |
