They absolutely will make mistakes. All the more reason to let them play now.
But keep in mind that things started to turn around when we let the kids play. They will make mistakes but it doesn't have to be painful.

Also, getting Vets doesn't guarantee winning either.

To an extent.

We started winning when -

Olofsson got healthy
We didn’t get awful goaltending (this is still a major ?)
Samuelsson entered the lineup (hes 23, not 20)
Dahlin pulled his head out of the sand
Tuch returned

if there was ever an offseason to infuse 2 or 3 quality vets to this young core, it's this offseason

and they were already eliminated from a playoff spot so the pressure was off

having close to 40 mil in cap space and saying you are not going to use it to improve your team guarantees another non playoff season
- homiedclown

It does. Again, are we trying to build a championship team or are we trying to make the playoffs next year? I just don't care about trying to make it next year unless it is part of the path to winning the whole thing.

To be honest I don't think they make it even if they added Malkin and Letang. The supporting cast needs more time.

They were out of the playoffs from day 1. Nothing changed as the year went on.

you have to make the playoffs before you can have a championship team

I think if the sabres were aggressive in this offseason, they could compete with the bruins

but at this point that may mean signing kuemper, klingberg and trading for kane

Fair, but if they roll into this year with Yoopie and Andy in goal, they can't use that excuse again when they're inevitably hurt. One is 41 and the other is always hurt

VH and CE both played meaningful minutes to be replaced by rookies. CE minutes were mostly against top lines.

More importantly our goaltending situation is worse than it was last year unless you think CA ages like fine wine.

Until smalltime KA brings in some people we have rookies filling holes and even less goaltending. Thats better?

- lacaprup

Oh FFS, Cody Eakin sucks Donkey balls, I will give you Vinny played a role, but if we cant replace his points with the rookies the Sabres have WAY bigger issues then. Hell You might get the extra points just out of Tuch if he stays healthy.

Our Goaltending is exactly the same, AARP and 6K. But again I would be shocked of GMKA did not make a trade or sign a goalie in FA.

I read that Adams has been “fantastic” today.

We haven’t left the bottom 10 yet.

“We have no room at forward”

Adams proceeds to draft 3 first round forwards

“Look at the great prospects we will never have any room for”

You can’t have it both ways

Yup, we agree on making the playoffs. But making it just to make it doesn't necessarily get you closer. Should be interesting to see if Pittsburgh gives Malkin the 4th year that he wants. Pitt and Washington should be aging out of contention nicely over the next few years.

Either way I don't think we ever had a shot at the guys that you like because they are going to be signed before free agency. I wouldn't mind KA making a hockey trade in the mold of Drury/Briere.

Apples and oranges. The vast majority of these guys won't be here for 3 or 4 years (or ever). Better yet, you can keep them down in Roch if they aren't better than what we have. You have a ton of options in that scenario. I agree with Adams stance on remaining flexible but I get why a lot of you feel different.

Well at the moment there's really 2 spots open and I'm not sure why people here wouldn't want our 2 best forward rookies taking those spots....

In a year or 2 you'll have Okposo contract up, Zemgus, Bjork, Mitts, Asplund, Cozens and Tage.

Thats when you make your moves.

We don’t.

We hired an analytics department because guys like Danton Heinen and Nick Aube-Kubel are under the radar pick ups that could give us the depth needed to actually play some games in April. But hey, can’t block guys.
