No way I’m paying 1sts for guys when we can sign them for free next year or sign guys this year.

I wouldn't give them 1 1st let alone 2. Don't want anything to do with Toews. Give them some 2nds + for Kane. Mrázek is basically a dump so No 1sts. If they can do better so be it. Can just sign Kane next year if he wants to come home. |

I really think Adam’s should consider paying some FAs big money on two or three year deals. We are in no cap danger during these years where we can’t afford to sign our own guys.
I think a guy like Cozens benefits long term playing 2nd/3rd line minutes for 2-3 years on playoff teams then playing 1st/2nd line minutes getting his head caved in by the games elite. He develops naturally (and other guys like him on our team) until they show that they are better than our 2-3yr FA contracts.
And long term it regresses our guys contracts because their numbers might not be as big on smaller roles. Then when our guys we bought for 2-3 years are gone. Our Cozens and guys like him take prominent roles with salaries that will be deals in their new roles |

I think most fans and analysts would agree with this sentiment but I think these days "overpays" are done through term (i.e overpay me in security). You could for instance give Andrew copp 7 mil over 3 years, but he's gunna get something between 5.5 to 6 on a 6 or 7 year deal. So to beat out the competition for FA that are worth overpaying in the first place (this list is like 4 names long btw), you not only have to beat the AAV, but beat whatever competing term is out there, which is how I believe they fell out of the Campbell race.
I suppose alternatively you could give them an insane overpay on a short term deal, but this team knows better than anyone what happens to a locker room when 2nd liners walk in making Crosby esque money while the heavy lifters are still on bridge deals and ELC's. |

That’s a good second point. I guess you do have to take into account locker room dynamics if some guys are really overpaid |

I thought there was a ton of thought behind it. Nothing like this comes close to happening without extending Kane first. Even then I don't love the deal, but he is right. Kane is still elite. |

Devil's advocate: Toews does have value as fourth line center. Not ideal but could fill a hole in lineup. Could also be a good influence to the kids. He might thrive in role where little is expected. Also, he is exactly guy that other teams would cover at the deadline given that he would be almost free if we held additional celery. |

Yeah it's a delicate balance. It's why I think for the time being, players like Sonny Milano are better targets. If they make it big here, together with this group, no one in the locker room will bat an eye if they get rightfully paid. |

So the Murray trade indicates that we had no real interest alfor Murray to actually play for us? We could have easily beat that offer. |

Oh, duh - I forgot that part. Still a weird gamble but the leafs. I think it shows you they didn't trust Campbell. I think it also shows that we want to continue the league trend where you have goalies on cheap contracts. |

No, but I thought he layed it out well. Depending on Kane extension I would consider it. The return for Chicago may depend on if he decides to do to them what Hasek did to us |

I think that was the right call tbh. Murray's a huge gamble, but with far less term involved.
If he plays like he did post call up, they're a threat. I suspect they'll be a player for Comrie or Samsonov too, just to hedge their bets a bit. |

Right, but this also hinges on someone attractive to us being left. You wait too long, its one chair and one person you really don't want sitting on you--er, it. |

11 pathetic seasons
trading hall a few months after signing him
moving on from ror and eichel
unstable front office and head coaching track record from the organization
these hurdles will take time and winning to overcome those issues IMO - homiedclown
Yet you’re always losing your sh!t about what move Adams didn’t make…. |
