Taco, lacrapruns says that Krebs was bad "by any standard" last season. Do you agree? - RichardRoma
I think he was one of those players that was better than his analytics. He was absolutely buried outside of the offensive zone. He's a talented player who was easily handled by most competition.
In saying that, his skill is very evident, so "by any standard" essentially refers to him as Anders Bjork, which is way untrue. He has tools and intelligence to be a very good forward, and it may take him a little time to get there.
My favorite convo is "HE SUX" but in the same post "TRADE HIM FOR P KANE" like what's the thought process. Chicago says he sux but then is like well here's pat kane.
Give the kid a (frank)ing chance.

That's lacrapruns's thought process. He would trade Krebs, Cozens, Quinn, or even Power for Kane. I think he'd go so far as to sell his soul to Satan himself, if it meant being able to wear a Kane jersey at a sold out game. |

Cruising through some of the UFA contracts signed in the past few years and glad the Sabres didn't partake in any of them.
Pens overpay 3 guys and none of them are Malkin.
The Flyers.
The Canucks paying Beagle, Loui and Roussel.
Erik Karlsson. Seth Jones. Cody Ceci. John Tavares. Taylor Hall. Hampus Lindholm. Suter and Parise. Alex Pietrangelo.
95% of the time, these big contracts let you down. Some more than others, some sooner than others. - TheSabresTaco
Extremely rare that a long term contract pays off

I still would have tried for Cat, even with just 2yrs of him, Jesus we have to spend like 32m next year to get to the floor. I would have brought him in, see if he gels and go from there. If things don't work your trade him a the TDL in 2yrs. |

Even if you can get to year 6 of 8 or 5 of 7 in the useful years, I'd say it's good payoff.
2016 was an utter disaster and somehow we came away with the best UFA out of the mix of Ladd, Backes, Lucic, Okposo, Eriksson, Boedker and Brouwer. I don't count Stamkos because he didn't move. Plus, great contract. So maybe he's the 5%. |

Tier 2 is where it's at:
2019 - Zuccarello, Maroon, Lehner, Pavelski, Duchene
All of those worked to some degree.
And Panarin in tier 1 |

when your contract has you under LTIR without a designation to return, you're unofficially retired. Pronger did this too.

pronger did it to take a job in the NHL front office
Bishop is being paid by the sabres, and double dipping by working for another NHL club
big difference

ethically questionable but again, he will never see the ice as a player. He has no impact on the team itself.

my main profession has restrictions on where I'm allowed to perform work outside of this job. I have to sign disclosures. As long as I follow those rules, I can work anywhere else I want as long as it has no impact on my area.
Which is true for Ben Bishop. |

So him helping "his" goalies defeat the Sabres, who are paying his salary, is OK? |

his impact is not direct. I mean, clearly it is legally ok. Ethically, I have questions.
