No matter what, he could pick his team next summer. As far as money goes, this is his last payday. These guys pay a lot out. For example, on a 10 million contract. 10 percent goes to the agent, 30 percent to taxes, union dues and escrow. Added up the player gets about half the dollar amount of the contract.

You have your logic and I have mine..my logic suggests if he gets traded to the Rangers he will fall in love with this city and team and sign cheaper than expected just to stay here. If I’m a loony toon for thinking that so be it🤷🏻‍♂️

I realize a lot has to happen for this to be the case but I’m staying hopeful because my belief is, with Patty Kane the Rangers can win a the cup next year based on what I saw this season. I think he is the missing piece, and that is just how I feel about it and I’m willing to trade a piece or two or three for him

No team in the history of the NHL has ever retained over $5 million for an entire season. But for some reason CHI is going to do that for us, and it’s not going to cost us Laf or Othmann, and then Kane is going to be nice enough to leave a whole bunch of money on the table to play for us the next 5 years bc well…..we’re the NYR. Makes complete sense guys. U guys are really onto something

tell me how buying out the last year of a contract is different? For example, Rangers buy out Kevin Shattenkirk and it cost them 5M against the cap and them Kevin signs with Tampa for 1M. Ditto Tony D. Isnt this in essence the same thing?

Retaining money in trade is a means of "weaponizing" the cap to your advantage IF you get a commensurate return in the trade. Some teams have to do it not only to acquire assets but also to reach the cap floor. The Blackhawks are dealing away their best young players for picks and players, but also saving money by not extending some players. Why shouldn't they do it with their iconic players, too? Retaining salary is no big deal to a big-market club doing what the Blackhawks are doing with significant players on their roster.

Exactly. Tanking teams couldn’t careless about cap savings. It’s simple, any team trading for him is a contender and any contender will need a huge chunk retained

Bet the under on Hawks wins next season lol

right on and the fact that its Kane who has a lot of value compared to Shattenkirk is the reason why ultimately its dumb to think about going after Kane. Mostly because, the price is going to be insane for a 1 year rental- but like i said before, if the cost is ONLY Kakko (which is also insane) I would do it because i think it would be a significant upgrade at RW for this team compared to last years that went to the Conf finals.

how does this line sound?

Panarin- Zib- Kane? I think it would be the #1 line in the NHL if they kept them all together- we might have 3 players on the same line go over 100 pts

Allow me to chime in here. With Kane going into the last year of his contract, an extension can be discussed as soon as Wednesday, July 13, the start of the league year. I woud think that IF Kane waives to go somewhere, Davidson will allow Brisson to negotiate the terms of the extension. I doubt if he will be a one year rental.

but we wouldn't be able to fit any Kane extension under our cap- so that addresses that. For us it could only be a 1 year rental

I get you now. I wasn't aware of your cap situation beginning in 23-24 until I checked capfriendly. Only 10 players signed and 23M in cap space with Miller, Chytil and Lafreniere as RFA's.

100%

And if it’s to rich for them they don’t make the trade. This has gotten very complicated for no reason.

Why are the Rangers in on EVERYONE, as theorized by some online hacks I know, but jeeeeesus.

It's fun to play GM, but the Rangers getting everyone possibly is a bit wild.

That’s a very good fit. Him and Granlund are both above average 3Cs and relatively solid 2Cs. Great depth there, they’re gonna be tough.

McDonaugh there is interesting because their left side is stacked but the right side is pretty weak. He’s probably the 3rd pairing LD.

This all started with Brooks article saying who’s a better trade, Miller or Kane. It’s weird how they literally would be the same salary we’d take on. I just think we’d have a better chance at extending Kane while costing less assets to get

Kane you can certainly limit the years on the cap, Miller is 7-8 years for sure. Kane you can do 3 years, maybe 4

Maybe we don’t plan on going crazy. Grab Trotchek or D Strome let Robertson take the 3rd pair LHD spot with Schneider and see how the season plays out.

I would like this but Trocheck won’t fit unless all of Nemeths contract comes off the books and even that might not be enough. But if they could make it work he would be a good fit. Next best option being Statsny which I have a gut feeling is most likely. Should have some answers in 2-3 days.

#NYR extend qualifying offers to Kaapo Kakko, Libor Hajek, Tim Gettinger and Austin Rueschhoff.

They did not qualify Tyler Wall, Ty Ronning, Justin Richards or Jacob Elmer.

Big mistake by the Rangers to not qualify the bolded. He's a real solid glue guy.

I don’t see a problem with it. I bet they’re hoping someone offers a 4th for him rather than lose him for nothing. If I were Hajek I’d be pretty pissed about it though.
