I gave you Shattenkirk- The Rangers retained more than $5M in the year after we bought him out. - Greschnergy#4
No, meaning in a trade. Everyone knows how hard I railed against the Shattenkirk signing, guy was a disaster before he even got here. When was the last time a team retained over $5 million in a TRADE for an entire season. |

There’s still hope the McD/JT Miller trade works out for us! 😂 |

Some guy on twitter says we’re the front runners for Sonny Milano (yawn). How would anyone know that if teams can’t talk to free agents yet? So dumb |

Toronto just got 2 picks to take Matt Murray in exchange for nothing. Really instills confidence that this is the guy that will lead you to the promised land |

Odd. Why not just let him go? Rangers are nearly punishing him by doing this. |

Thank you for adding the extra detail. Truth is for all reading, like 3-4 players have ever been traded in the last decade at this time of year with the salary retained was also peanuts.
Which is why I see this happening at the trade deadline. |

It’s his fault the Rangers refused to do a trade unless he was involved, make him suffer 😂 |

That’s possible. Hopefully more like the 8th or 88th man up would be better haha
That trade really was the pits man oofah. What can ya do🤷🏻♂️Nash trade probably makes up for most of it with Lindgren
We haven’t really talked about it much but I think they’ll need a vet dman cheap. Nemeth buy out and then someone for a million bucks. I kinda like Cole or Brendan Smith |

Imagine if we did half way decent on that trade, we’d really be loaded in prospects/depth. |

I know defensemen take longer to develop, but come on already. Even during stints in Hartford he hasn’t produced. Other than a really strong World Juniors, he’s been super underwhelming. That McDonagh trade was a dud, why not just move on at this point? |

You know, I have this feeling at some point in like 2-3 years McDonagh will be a Ranger again. |

I gave you Shattenkirk- The Rangers retained more than $5M in the year after we bought him out. - Greschnergy#4
The Rangers actually incurred nearly a $6.1M cap hit in that second year, (for the 2020/21 season), of Shatty's 4 year buyout period. The other three years including this season's final one, were for about $1.4M each.
However, Shatty's Aug. 1, 2019 buyout was necessary in order to afford to reel in shortly earlier, that July's #1 overall free agent in Panarin. That thanks to J.D. of key convincing him to play a top role in their rebuild, while in turn preventing the heavily interested Isles from signing him instead for slightly higher money offered.
But in the end, the teams primarily willing to retain a player's single season's $5M+ cap hit penalty among an overall buyout period; are those in need of cap space for whatever need to remain a Cup contender. Teams in a rebuild like Chicago will only retain like money in cap hit via a trade of a star player the level of Kane or Toews, if the return of assets received in exchange is excessive in stature to greatly aid &/or accelerate their rebuild. |

Matt Murray to TML. Wow.
Totonto gets Matt Murray 25% retained, 3rd in 2023 and 7th in 2024.
Ottawa gets future considerations. |
