The decision not to qualify Samsonov was a financial decision. As an RFA (with arbitration rights), the #Caps projected that he'd come in at $3-$3.5 million per, which, in their view, was too much for a backup and not justified based on his performance to date.

There were teams waiting for LaFontaine's draft rights to expire to sign him, but I wonder how many of those clubs will still be interested. One of the weirdest prospect stories I can remember. 75 minutes of NHL playing time after leaving Minnesota late in the season. or this guy. |

Breaking: Sources say Evgeni Malkin has decided to go to the open market on Wednesday. Malkin has never been a free agent before and wants to see what his options are. |

That could also put the Penguins in the Miller sweeps though. |

The #Canucks announced today that they have extended a qualifying offer to Michael DiPietro. The following players were not sent qualifying offers: Justin Bailey, Matthew Highmore, and Juho Lammikko. - VanHockeyGuy
More grit and size out.... to be replaced with fluffy Swedes no doubt.... or....
Reports that Canucks are very interested in Ty Ronning.
The sand paper this management talks about has as much grit as jewelers cloth. |

Or a team goes for Malkin instead keeping their prospects, young players and picks giving up no assets. Can go both ways.... |

Well yes, a team like the Rangers could sign Malkin taking them out of the Miller sweeps, but Pittsburg might want to replace Malkin with Miller. Or they might not. I wonder if the Penguins will let other teams negotiate with Malkin early and trade his rights.

You mean a cap strapped team who has to trade a very good player to a team that thinks they can make a run for the playoffs? |

What if it was a two way deal, and he only ever played in Abbotsford? Or what if it was only an AHL deal? Would be good marketing for the Fraser Valley. |

That situation sounds familiar, but I can't place the team or player. |

John Klingberg is the top UFA defenceman going to market Wednesday. There will be plenty of interest. Once he signs, do teams looking for a blueline upgrade shift to the trade route? There are options: Jeff Petry, Tyler Myers, Jakob Chychrun, Tyson Barrie, Marcus Pettersson, etc. - VanHockeyGuy

Malkin to NY Rangers I bet ... to play with Panarin. NYR has always been famous for picking up this kind of star later in career. Good for broadway.
Not only competition for Miller ... straight up steals the best most likely trade destination.
Starting to feel familar already. Wait and see quickly turns into wait and get screwed. #BenningVibes |

I still feel like Motte drove that line, they weren’t as effective after the trade even when they tried to add Lockwood’s speed - Nucker101

100% agree ... most night i thought that line was our best. Never the worst and played more minutes than your typical 4th line it seemed like. |

Huge Russian communities, a likely destination. Lou will laugh.
