It’s big enough to get a good bidding war going. This offseason teams would add him to go over the top (Canes) if they let players test UFA (NYR) or make a PO push (NJ) window is closing (Caps). Other teams tbd. - Nighthawk
Bidding war?
The time for bidding wars is stronger at TDL and the draft... look how that went... |

Yeah, really short list of teams that would want a 99 point guy on an expiring contract that has a 5.25 mil cap hit. |

A team like the Caps I can see making a big push for JTM. Ovi & Backstrom & Carlson aren’t getting younger.
CBJ could be a dark horse. |

Apparently there's not many teams interested in JTM. Character issues, excessive contact expectations. May be able to unload him to the team of his choosing at a reduced return.

Yes & No. After this draft more prospects are known that can sweeten the deal. We gotta believe JR/PA set a price & got offers. Timing is everything & teams are at different points in their windows or push. |

Here's how it looks to teams interested in Miller.
Canucks would sign Miller before trading him if the counter offer was within reason(after the 13th). That would put them in the best position possible. Trading a signed Miller. Teams have to consider Miller is asking for the moon or is intent to go to UFA... There's no way for them to get any idea what direction Miller's camp is going.... investment will reflect this if they are interested at all.
More likely than a bidding war over this player now, teams are going to wait it out because the pressure will grow on the Canucks. Be patient and you'll probably get a Miller at a bargain at some point... If not, well it wasn't worth the risk anyways.
The position of strength is now shifting away from the Canucks. |

Character is overblown in here. The stats & eye test said he was a huge force & he drove the team all season. His skill set alone is a commodity. Potential trade partners could get permission to negotiate his extension. |

I can tell you haven't been around. PA is declining to let trade partners talk with his agent. Rumor has it(and I know its a rumor still) that the deal with the Islanders collapsed because they were not allowed contact.
People have been debating if this hurts his trade value and number of potential suiters. It seems evenly divided between people that say yes and no. There's even a guy who gets butt hurt over it.
Now you are caught up.
If the Islander deal fell through because of this... that pretty much settles the argument. A deal the Canucks wanted... but was taken off the table. |

I’d peg his ask at 7-8/8.5m. That could change to 7/8m on the right team.
Who might that be?
NYR if they let Strome walk & resign Copp. What will be Copp’s ask?
Canes could stand pat & resign Trochek or change it up a bit. Some more PO scoring is all they really lacked. The PP gets better & they already are a good D team D out.
NJD look ready to take the next step & adding Miller would help the high end youths.
Caps window is closing along with the Pens. Q is what they can or will offer. Personally I like what the Caps have they’d maybe be willing to move.
LAK are priming to make serious noise & tons of prospects to offer. I just hate to see a rival get him. |

I was certain Habs would take him. Not surprised Wright fell in the least. Wright now has a chip on his shoulder & could prove everybody wrong. Good scoop for da Kraken. |

Ok thx for the update 👍
In the case of Lou imo he’d use it to lowball the Canucks. That could lead to can o worms with other teams following suit. So maybe not a great idea on my part. |

Why would teams like NJ and LA make a big trade package for a player when they have no idea his asking price or if he's intent on going to UFA? That defies the idea of them taking Miller because they are ready. If Miller walked a season after giving up picks prospects young players... what does that do to your rebuild?

I really like McMichael from the little I’ve seen of him. He can only get better. Young big & can skate just what we need going forward. Idk if the Caps would part with him. |

I hearya but I presumed they’d be able to resign was my basis. Simply took that leap as a part of my idea. |

Miller probably is set on not working out a deal, before UFA '23, why wouldn't he? He's going to be the hottest free agent on the market and could get the max deal anywhere he wants to go, leaving us holding his bags, while he goes around trying everyone how much he LOVES Vancouver and would LOVE to stay for the rest of his career. 🤨 |

It would be irresponsible management to assume Miller is not interested in UFA and send off a big sacrifice. Teams are going to want to talk to his agent first when agreeing to a hefty price. The fact they are being told no contact doesn't calm the paranoia any...
Bidding wars and hot market now that last TDL and the draft has passed are a pipe dream. There will still be interest. The market isn't dead but I think people dreaming that the Canucks position is getting stronger are in for a rude awakening.
